What are your tips for starting and having your best day at work?

There is a big difference between getting your heart pumping in the morning with exercise and getting it pumping sitting at your desk reading email. Some of my best days have actually started the day before with a plan for my personal well-being & work the next day. With a good night's rest, I would wake up earlier enough to exercise (e.g., P90X: Yoga, swimming, or 10–15-mile bike ride), breakfast and a shower. Yoga tended to allow the mind to separate from it all and the stretching of muscle relieved all the tension from the day before.  I have to admit that out of all the exercising I have done in my life, Yoga is by far the toughest I have undertaken. I truly underestimated the strength it took to get into as well as hold those poses.
Tip #1: Plan for a great tomorrow by straightening a workspace before leaving your desk. (I rarely was able to do this.)
Tip #2: Have a great shower, early bedtime, and set the alarm for at least 1.5 hours before you need to leave.
Tip #3: Meditate (on how great your day will go); Exercise; have a good breakfast and shower.

A bike ride around 4:30 am or 5:00 am would allow me to be one of the first to breath the fresh air (relatively fresh) of the morning and there would be little to no noise. There was always a peace that came with being one of the first to step into the new day. Seeing the moon still in the sky and later watching the sun peek over the horizon. I would come into the office early and at peace.
Of course, these tips worked well for me. There are other means and methods to having a great day. What are your tips for starting and having your best day at work?

I like to get a good night's sleep. I'm going to experiment with setting a sleep alarm; The idea is set a reasonable time when I can drop everything when that alarm sounds, although I've to take care not to wake myself up by going to bed early one night and waking to an alarm telling me to go to sleep. I'm speaking from experience.

I've also started wearing an activity band to track my sleep, just to see if I'm getting enough sleep, although I think we should also maintain our inner sense of whether we're tired and not outsource that knowledge to an app.

I am a big fan of maintaining that inner sense. I find that when I have set an alarm, my body tends to wake up a few minutes before. In some cases, my body knows when to ignore the alarm. I like the idea of dropping everything at the end of the day when an alarm sounds. Of course, that means I have to stick to my schedule within the day hoping not to be interrupted. I have been goal oriented and not time. I will work until I have checked all the boxes.

30 minutes of stretching. You can meditate during that time as well. And it's good for a bad back!

Sitting has been identified as one of the leading causes of back pain. I purchased the book "Becoming A Supple Leopard (The Ultimate Guide to Resolving Pain, Preventing Injury, and Optimizing Athletic Performance)" 2nd Edition. The physics, statics and dynamics of it all make so much sense that I ended up buying the lacrosse balls to work out knots in tightened muscles.

I was introduced to the rollers one morning in taekwondo training to loosen up leg muscles. A deep tissue massage of the legs. Discovered muscles knots I did not realize were there.

Special shout out to Ray Long's books "Anatomy for 1) "Hip Openers and Forward Bends"; "Backbends and Twists"; "Vinyasa Flow and Standing Poses", & "Arm Balances and Inversions". These are the engineering and science books of stretching. (None of which I have read completely. I pick and choose)

In reality no matter how much I try to plan it, I just woke up, grab a towel, do hygienes, and drink water and coffee. And guilty to say scrolling on my socmed and messages, you know just to get entertainment before I got very serious all day long. And I think what do you mean how to start when you have a very stressful week, and not so good day that we all have, with that worries in my mind, I'd like to feed and pay attention to my pets (my dog), talking to my closest one, reject social medias, not reading messages, and staring through the windows, let the problem sync in alone for a minute and think for a mantra for today, and sometimes quiet time helps when you're engaging some intrapersonal thoughts.

I am not sure I understand. It sounds like you have a routine for having a great day, but it appears that you are also saying that you go into the week expecting a stressful week. Is that correct?

I miss my dog. You have to get up every morning and walk if you have a dog. Pets have a way of allowing us to focus on something other than ourselves.
This is a Lao Tzu saying I just shared with a "play" nephew who teeters between his past and his future.

     If you are depressed,
you are living in the past.
     If you are anxious,
you are living in the future.
     If you are at peace,
you are living in the present.

I believe what Llala was saying was not expecting every week to be stressful, but expecting certain weeks that you know would be--exams, interviews, etc.--and the inevitable bad days that you may or may not anticipate.

I think ups and downs are perfectly natural. I don't expect to be on a high every day; in fact, a good day for me is one where I stay on track. I must disagree with the sentiment that there's something wrong if you feel depressed or anxious. Even the American Psychiatric Association is allowing one full year for deep grief--one that debilitates life. Surely for smaller losses it's okay to feel sad for a shorter amount of time. And anxiety is only bad if it gets out of hand; like pain, it can be informative.

Mr. Lee, I challenge you to find anywhere in what I wrote that says "______" is wrong" or "problematic".
I state that I am not sure I understand and ask if my interpretation is correct.
Outside of all that can occur in life, one of our few controls is our reaction to situations.

Almost there both sides. I apologize but thank you for asking about it clearly, what I'm trying to say is that I'm making sub-topics about "WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR STARTING AND HAVING YOUR BEST DAY AT WORK?". Like how we can start our best day if our yesterday is not so good. I'm referring to other mental issues we facing by adjusting in the pandemic. And with that I'm sharing my personal issues in starting a good day. It's getting overwhelmed day by day in getting on track and I guess that's my problem, not because of stress but thinking about my mental health, like how and why I feel very exhausted even I get enough rest or when I get very lazy the whole day.

But I guess you're in good shape of mind since you can get right into your track. how about the others? I want to ask of how is your mental health? Are you doing fine? How do you deal with it? If anyone relates, please share how do you manage this mental issues. I am very thankful whatever it is.

    James,

I love discussions and always try to debate the issue and not the person. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear; I was merely responding to the saying,

     "If you are depressed,
you are living in the past.
     If you are anxious,
you are living in the future.
     If you are at peace,
you are living in the present."

I can see what it's saying, but to me it's too prescriptive and restrictive towards emotions.

Tsee, I am okay with the discussions. The only discussions I truly take personal are those I have with myself.
While a lot of saying may be simplistic, I imagine most are designed to spur self-contemplation with the purpose of aiding.
I sincerely respect your opinion and perspective on that saying. Debating someone's personal perspective, perception or interpretation is like debating the contents of a book (you have not read) with the author based solely on the knowledge of the title.

    Respectfully,

This is a tougher question for those of us working in the field with inconsistent day/night shifts. A regular daily regimen is difficult for us.  However, for the past 34 years I've managed to start most days on the right foot, so I am looking inward to see if there is something I do, other than drink too much coffee.  I think one of the tricks is to keep things light - listen to something worthwhile or have a conversation on a non-aggravating topic.
