Sometimes the construction crew would go ahead do changes without consulting with the designer.  From construction perspective view; it's easy to make holes for the shearwall and later they gonna fix it. However, designers would argue do not make holes through the shearwall unless allowed 1, 2 OR even 200 holes through a shearwall.

If holes are needed that the engineer has not provided for, ask the engineer for assistance. There is no general permission to add holes.

It`s always best practice to contact the engineer before coring holes in shearwalls. There are a few things to take into consideration which are the position of the holes, sizes, diameter and most of all the location of services hidden inside the shearwalls. Therefore it`s extremely important to avoid disrupting or severing these services and alerting the designer of any potential coring.
