    In a high seismic area, using the Reduced Design Option and High Deformability Elements (HDE) for precast diaphragm connectors, ASCE 7-16, 14.2.4.3.3 says that the connectors have to "tension deformation capacity" per 14.2.4.6.7 of greater than 0.6-inches.

    How would I determine "tension deformation capacity"?

    What procedure is the 14.2.4.6.7 reference pointing to?  This section does not exist in my printing of ASCE 7-16 or in any errata, supplement or reference code I can find.

    David,

    Tension deformation capacity is determined in 14.2.4.4.7.

    There is probably a typo with this cross reference.

    Is there a published document that classifies or reports these backbone curves for precast diaphragm connection details?

    @David Stierwalt

    I have been asked to share the following response on behalf of the chair of the ASCE 7 Seismic Subcommittee:

    Thank you for pointing out the issue of trying to determine the "tension deformation capacity, as determined in Section 14.2.4.6.7."  Actually, you uncovered an erratum (which also exists in Sections 14.2.4.3.1 and 14.2.4.3.2) for the section being referenced.  The actual section that was intended to be referred to is 14.2.4.4.7.  You'll find the appropriate requirements to determine "tension deformation capacity" in this section.  Thank you, again, for pointing this out.
