If the condition is as you show there will be at some time a dropping of the column until it hits the leveling plate which is not really doing its job.  I do not like using leveling plates, too many variables to make them work.  shims are the best and removes after the grout is set to avoid rusting and the exerting of upward loads at the shim location.
