The John A. Reif, Jr. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (Newark, NJ) has an opening for a University Lecturer specializing in Mechanics and Structures. The position requires teaching introductory and advanced mechanics/structural engineering courses that include statics, dynamics, strength of materials, structural analysis, concrete design, and steel design. The position also requires mentoring of engineering students and working with the department to enhance the delivery of programs. The candidate is expected to engage in initiatives to enhance/refresh students' background knowledge in basic mathematics and calculus required for mechanics courses, such as identifying and/or developing self-paced modules. It is preferable that candidates demonstrate these abilities through previous experience and accomplishments.
Essential Functions:
Teaches and oversees tutoring of mechanics and structural engineering courses that would enhance the civil engineering program delivery.
Essential Characteristics:
Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate Geotechnical Engineering courses and familiarity with associated software.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
Experience teaching undergraduate and graduate mechanics and structural engineering courses and familiarity with associated software is essential. A MS in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
FE/PE in Civil Engineering with 5+ years of teaching and industrial experience or Ph.D. in Civil Engineering is preferred. It is desired that the candidate have application knowledge of structural engineering software, including BIM, structural analysis, and design software. It is also desired that the candidate have the ability and experience with online/hybrid teaching and development of online training modules. At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university and the SPHS Leadership Council, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
