No experience requirements! Just looking for individuals with some relevant discipline experience; responsibilities described below.
Interested volunteers can reply to pittsburghasce@...  or below with questions or to volunteer.

    1. Head Judge - Steel Bridge Competition
    2. Head Judge - Concrete Canoe Competition
    3. Assistant Judges - Steel bridge, Concrete canoe, Environmental, Technical paper, CI competition, Sustainable solutions

    Concrete Canoe:

Head judge(s): Responsible for grading the concrete mix design, grading oral presentations, overseeing races in the water at North Park. Rubrics will be provided, however some background knowledge in concrete will likely be helpful! This is a time commitment of nearly all day in order to see presentations, the swamp test and races.

    Steel Bridge:

Head judge: Responsible for organizing other judges and overseeing entire competition. This will include scoring bridges on aesthetics, build time, and loading tests based on rubrics provided. This also includes a couple of webinars prior to the event to learn about how to judge. No experience with steel fabrication is needed, but this will require someone to be on their feet for most of a day.

Assistant judges: Responsible for overseeing bridge construction and ensuring bridge pieces are correct dimensions, builders follow safety rules, and other rules provided. A scoring sheet will be provided. Also may be responsible for overseeing the loading tests to ensure bridge safety and to make sure a bridge can pass required load tests. This will also be a full day commitment.

    Environmental:

Judges: Judges will score an oral presentation. Judges will also score water that passes through a water filter based on water quality characteristics such as: PH, mineral levels and turbidity. Familiarity with water quality tests may be helpful but not necessary as a judging form will be provided! This is a smaller time commitment as the competition only takes part of the day.

    Technical Paper:

Judges: Students will be writing a paper which will be graded for content and grammar. Judges will also grade an oral presentation by the paper's writer. A rubric may be provided or judges may create their own scoring criteria. This is a smaller time commitment as well as the competition only takes part of the day.

    CI Competition:

Judges: This is our construction management competition which consists of an estimate by teams. For this competition experience in construction or estimating will be helpful. This is a smaller time commitment as well.

    Sustainable Solutions:

Judges: Students will be creating an idea for a tiny-home. Experience in sustainability and site design could prove helpful. A judging sheet will be provided. There is an oral presentation associated with this competition that will be scored as well. This is a medium sized time commitment as the submissions will be reviewed ahead of time and the presentations will be done during competition time.

Time frame for judging of the various competitions can be found below:

Judges are still needed.  Great opportunity for Pitt alumni or others who had valuable experiences as students at the ASCE competitions!
