Want to make a difference in the local Pittsburgh area? Then please consider join the team for the Community Forge outdoor space Rehabilitation Project!

Engineers Without Borders Pittsburgh Professional Chapter is partnering with Community Forge in Wilkinsburg to redesign the outdoor space of their building. Community Forge is a community center dedicated to supporting Wilkinsburg by cultivating arts, civic engagement, athletics, education, and mission-driven small business. The current playground area is in disrepair with cracked pavement, a failing retaining wall, and drainage concerns. Community Forge would like EWB Pittsburgh to assist in rehabilitating the existing outdoor lot to create a safe, kid-friendly space for the local community to use.

EWB Pittsburgh is looking for volunteers to help in the planning and design of this new space. We are particularly looking for volunteers with experience in pavement design, site grading and drainage plans, and retaining wall design but anyone who would like to help out is welcome to join the project.

If you are interested or want more information please contact Nicole Mee and Katrina Weinmann at wilkinsburg@...

I am tentatively interested. I need to check with my employer and want a bit more info about what I am getting into before I can commit to anything though.

I am civil/environmental with a focus on stormwater and green infrastructure. I've done a decent amount of site design. I'm competent for paving, but you need a structural guy for the wall.

I am a Structures guy, and I am interested. I still have a good year of experience left before I'm eligible to sit for the PE, though, so I can't stamp anything.

Thank you for the initial interest and questions! You can learn more about the project and what Engineers Without Boarders does on their website and by attending a project meeting/signing up for project related emails.  See link below.
You do not have to commit to sealing plans and defiantly do not need to be a PE to help with the project.   We can us all skill levels and time commitments. Nicole and Katrina are leading the project so additional questions can be best answered by them through the Wilkinsburg@... email.
