Camilla, Al, and the rest of the Awards Selection Team--

I never expected to win this award.

It is always thrilling for any of us to be acknowledged by our peers for excellence in civil engineering education (oh, yeah, ExCEEd!!).  I am honored, humbled, and excited to be named as "We Always Need a Good Sports Analogy Award" winner.  I'd like to thank my parents, my sandlot football colleagues (The Hammond Bojays, 1965-1970), both of my grandsons (ages 8 & 5) for teaching me Madden gaming, and to all the champions of CE education upon whose shoulders I stand.  Thank you very much.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Camilla--

    You are very kind.

We all stand as links of the strong and ever lengthening chain of educators who care to make a difference in students' lives.  I am proud to stand next to all of you who have done such a masterful job this week, sharing and freely giving what you have learned in your experiences, trial, and efforts during this challenging COVID-19 times.  You make me smile (and feel warm inside!!) when I listen to each of you on line, telling me about developing interpersonal rapport with students via creative, innovative, and effective tactics, techniques, and programs....and it works!  I laugh when I hear (and see!!) John Muir telling me directly about something that I expected Professor Savez to be saying--and because it is John Muir, it sticks to me and further extends my understanding.  You further tell me about some of John's shortcomings in his life--and that sticks, too, as we all have real and perceived shortcomings & stumbles as well.

This is an exceptional learning community of trustworthy, caring persons who are committed to excellence and freely share what they know and do.  You all clearly demonstrate and practice the meaning of Excellence in Civil Engineering Education.  WELL DONE!  This community is making a difference in people's lives every day.

    Cheers,

    Jim
