The ASCE workshops/sessions/events I've gotten the most out of were:
1. Related to leadership or "people skills" training, and
2. Included a hands-on or "practice what you just learned" component
Here's three examples:
1. At last year's MRLC (I didn't go this year), there was a session about personality types that had you both figure our your own type, move around the room to be grouped with others in your type (so you got to meet new people as you went), and then talked about how other types would solve the same problem differently.
2. The emerging leader's alliance conference (not an ASCE program, but ASCE sends representatives) had sessions about career paths, managing different types of people, or conducting performance reviews.
3. The most popular local events I've attended often involved some sort of mentorship focus. For example, a panel discussion or speed mentoring (i.e. every mentor has a table, and mentees move around to different tables; a moderator calls "time" when it's time to move to a different table).

Subject: Successful ASCE Workshops
I'm trying to revamp our younger member group and would like some feedback on workshops. I'm interested in knowing what types of workshops people have attended through ASCE that have been helpful to their career? What did you like and dislike?
Thanks,
