Yes, suppose, one who would like to get promoted from Assistant Professor (having sufficient experience)  to Associate Professor level. What are the strategies a candidate should try while negotiating in the same situation?

Have you seen SheNegotiates.com? It's the website mentioned in LeanIn and is absolutely geared towards reducing the wage gap. However, the advice they give is ungendered. I really like this article:

"I appreciate that, and I just want to put this into perspective. Last year, I brought in $15MM, a year-over-year increase of nearly 50% and nearly half of total revenues. It just happens that $150,000 is literally one percent of the value I brought to this company last year.

What would be a good answer to "What is your expected salary?" for an entry-level job?

"What is your expected salary?" is a frequent and inappropriate question from the interviewer.  You can give a reasonable range.  Entry-level is also a term that limits that range.   Entry-level could mean a lot of things and you do not want to limit yourself to the low end of that range.  What is the salary range of the position?  If it is not listed in the job posting, you could find out from ASCE salary data.   "I believe the salary range for this position is $-$$ and I think we can negotiate within that range," would be a good response.

I always find it difficult to answer this question, especially when you are filling out the form online for a job application. However, I guess that doesn't have as large an implication as the interview. I really like the salary range suggestion. Thank you.
