What is your approach to your desk space?

I recently moved to a new desk at our office, which has me thinking about how different people view their working space.

My philosophy is that I spend more waking hours at my desk than I do in my home most weekdays, and I want it to feel like my home away from home.

It is full of plants, souvenirs from trips, gifts from friends and family, and my own creations.

Below are some before and after photos of my desk setup, and I'm interested to see what others have done with their space.

Ok, Heidi. I'm officially jealous. That's a gorgeous space to work in.

Here's one of my two workspaces. I'd like to have plants but spending 2-3 months away from each one doesn't allow them to live.

That's a great workspace!  Companies that want their employees to spend more time in the office could learn from your employer.  Manufacturers long ago learned that they can increase production efficiency by laying out assembly lines in the way that help workers produce their product most efficiently.  They learned that an engine assembly workstation may be very different from a body assembly workstation.  They also learned that the cheapest assembly line may not be the best for production efficiency.  Many office designers today seem to have the opposite philosophy and provide one-size-fits-all workstations and are focused on reducing real estate square footage and buildout costs as the main goal.  I especially envy your shelf space!
