    Hi Emaduddin,

Your resume format is easy to read and stays to one page. No suggestions for revision.

The top of your resume should be a 1-line Objective Statement or Professional Summary that summarizes who you are or what position you are applying to, tailored to each job.

You state that you passed the PE Civil: Structural exam – if this is true, then do you need to update your title from E.I.T to PE?

    No other comments, nice work.

    Hi Brandon -

Small typo in third bullet of section job. – asses should be assess 😉 and boast should likely be boost.

Consider putting your job titles in italics. Also include dates worked at the top job on your resume the way you did on the one beneath it.

    Best of luck.

    Hello Derrick,

I would consider trying to cut this resume down to 2 pages at most. Many employers will not entertain a 4 page student resume so this could inadvertently work against you. Consider removing anything that is not a major accomplishment or related to each job that you apply to. This can be your "main resume" that you whittle down to match the specifics of each role you pursue.

Reduce your profile section by removing any part where you are "telling people how good you are" and save it for the parts of the resume where you are instead "showing people how good you are"

You can likely remove your Secondary School, especially if you are applying for jobs in the USA.

You can remove your References page, potential employers will request references if they need them.

    Best of luck to you.

    Hi Yasir,

You can consider removing your list of skills from your Professional Summary, since you list them immediately below in the next section. You can also likely remove your last sentence in this section.

Consider changing KEY SKILL to KEY SKILLS

Standardize your font throughout your resume. Bullets 2 and 3 under EXPERIENCE are different than the first. Your PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY is also different font than the KEY SKILL section.

I have reviewed your resume. You have great content, but the format of your resume makes it hard to navigate. I highly suggest you update the format of your resume to be similar to an example that I included with my other comments. I think with these changes your resume will be very strong. Ema,

I have reviewed your resume and really like what you have so far. Your resume is professional, easy to navigate, and includes a lot of great content for someone who is still in university. I feel this biggest improvement would be to add an Objective Statement to your resume. I have provided some examples in my attached comments. I also commented on some other minor changes that I feel will make your resume stronger. Please let me know if you have any questions on my comments. Great job!

    Christina:

Resume is nicely balanced with a multitude of achievements.  If you have an EIT, then please note.  What is the extent of your AutoCAD knowledge?  For example, Building Information Modeling?  Recommend to de-emphasize listing courses (leave this to the transcript -- often provided as an attachment to application) and demonstrate applying your education.  For example, emphasize "life-spanning" leadership skills such as public speaking, mentoring and community involvement.  Hopefully, these suggestions help.  All the best -- David

Marketable Skills; however, please transition from professional profile to objective.  It seems that your professional profile (as written) is a one size fits all illustration of your talent.  An objective is clear / concise / sharp matching the job advertised and / or being sought.  Additionally, national guard service spans over eight years.  Please show progressive growth (year-by-year).  That will add value.  Hopefully these suggestions help.  All the best -- David

Thanks for providing this opportunity. I've had recruiters tell me that my resume needs "beefed up" but not had any more specific guidance. I'm wondering if I'm at a point in my career where a one-pager is no longer sufficient, especially when I consider the documentation I needed to put together for my PE licensure.

    Hi Kevin,

Your resume is clear and provides good information as is. I left just one question in the comments. As far as "beefing it up" goes, a skills section would be useful for showing all your software/other proficiencies in one place, although I do like the way you mention GIS, Civil 3D, and VBA throughout. If there is a project or two at any of your jobs that you are especially proud of or would like to highlight, you could get into specifics there - what the project was (if you are allowed to disclose), what you in particular did, some quantifiable outcomes. Finally, you could add a brief objective statement near the top / trim down your summary statement and add it there.

You can save some space by reducing font size and/or reducing space between headings and content, but if you still need to go onto a second page, I don't think that would be inappropriate at this stage.

    Best of luck,

    Katie

    Good morning ASCE Resume Coaches,

My name is Zak, and I'm a current senior civil engineering student studying at Stony Brook University. For context, I'm applying to a broad range of jobs, and it seems that land development is the current best fit. After graduation, I'd love to pursue both my PE and my LS; however that pans out. Hi Prakash,

Your resume looks great. I left a few comments in the PDF, but I think you have an appropriate amount of detail and specificity when listing your qualifications.

    Hi Kossi,

Your resume looks great - clear content and well structured. I left some formatting comments in the PDF. I think you also have room to place a brief objective statement at the top - just as you stated, you are seeking a position in sustainability in the urban environment.

    Best of luck,

    Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for submitting your resume! Overall this is a good resume as a one-page summary of your skills and experience.

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    • Consider removing the "6" from your file name "Official Resume - Benjamin Sacrapal (6)". If you want version control, I typically recommend adding a date like "September 2025".
    • For your role at Carlos Landscaping INC. , did you mean to have this as a present role? Currently role is shown as active until August 2027.
    • Capitalization of "AutoCAD", "QGIS", and "ArcGIS" are inconsistent throughout
    • Add space between end of work experience and skills and software experience similar to the break between the major headers above.
    • For the software experience section, you could add what version of the program (i.e. AutoCAD 2020 or Bentley OpenRoads Designer 10.12)

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    Hi Surendra,

Thank you for submitting your resume!

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    • In case folks are printing out your resume, I would recommend you include the full URL of your LinkedIn. You can customize your URL by following the instructions here: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a542685/manage-your-public-profile-url?lang=en
    • If you need room for including your full LinkedIn URL, you can change your address to just your City and State (Full addresses were more common in the past when jobs had to mail you things prior to e-mail.)
    • Consider changing the summary at the top of your resume to an objective to show what kind of job you are looking for.
    • For the experience section, can you add more quantitative experience? For example, at your role at Integrated Development Society (IDS), how many technical staff did you supervise? Approximately how many projects were you working on simultaneously? A bit more detail here can help me get a better sense of your past work experience.
    • For the skills section, you could add what version of the program (i.e. AutoCAD 2020 or Bentley OpenRoads Designer 10.12)

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    Hi Mady,

Thank you for submitting your resume! Overall, this is a good resume as a one-page summary of your skills and experience.

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    • Congratulations on passing the FE Exam since you have included "E.I." after your name. If you can find room, I would recommend adding your EI number somewhere on your resume as that shows you are on the path to becoming a licensed PE!
    • For the experience section, can you add more quantitative experience? Regarding the projects you just worked on at Thorton Tomasetti, are they small outpatient healthcare facilities in a single story building or hospital / ER with several floors and larger SF? A bit more detail here can help me get a better sense of your past work experience.
    • While I know what ASCE is, it might be good to put "American Society of Civil Engineers" incase the person reviewing your resume is unfamiliar with this awesome organization.
    • General feedback – typically any role like your Teaching Assistant role that you are presently still doing, I usually write those bullet points in present tense (Facilitate vs. Faciliated)

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    Hi Daniel,

Thank you for submitting your resume! Overall, this is a good resume as a one-page summary of your skills and experience.

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    ·         For the skills section, you could add what version of the program (i.e. AutoCAD 2020 or Bentley OpenRoads Designer 10.12)

    ·         For the experience section, can you add more quantitative experience? Regarding your Robertson County Plat Proposal and Presentation, how large was the parcel? 1 or 5 acres makes a difference. A bit more detail here can help me get a better sense of your past work experience.

    ·         Add more space above "LEADERSHIP". Right now it blends into the page too much to serve as a proper section break. If you are running low on space, you could also try centering all those section headers.

    ·         Instead of including "Oral & Written Communication" in a list, can you show me how you are working on these? Maybe through one of your volunteering roles you are providing presentation to prospective members or another form of public speaking?

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    Hi Ronitkumar,

Thank you for submitting your resume!

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    •  So when I print this Word Document to a PDF, a few of the lines trickle onto the 2nd page. I would prioritized getting this to fit on one page since a resume is typically only one page as a student.
    •  For the skills section, you could add what version of the program (i.e. AutoCAD 2020 or Bentley OpenRoads Designer 10.12)
    • For the experience section, can you add more quantitative experience? Regarding your math learning assistant role, how many students were your tutoring at one time during the group study sessions. A bit more detail here can help me get a better sense of your past work experience.
    • For Leadership and Organizations, you only listed organizations. I would recommend either deleting "Leadership" from the section header or add some detail about your leadership roles in ASCE and CMAA.

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

Hi Varnit. I have reviewed your resume. Please find a few comments below.

Allow for a single line for an objective statement.

This is a personal choice but consider moving your Headers into their own lines above your sections, and then allowing your bullets to fill more of the page. You could also include the dates worked in the header to utilize more of that space on the right hand side as well. These changes will reduce the amount of negative space on your resume and help to provide more free space for future work.

Consider changing "Area of Expertise" to "Skill Sets"

Consider changing "Soft" to "Project Management"

Best of luck in your job search.

Hi Ali, I have reviewed your resume. Please find my comments below:

Find a way to make space for a single line for an objective statement. This will allow you to tailor your resume to each future job you apply for.

Water and wastewater management doesn't seem in line with everything else on your resume. You could remove it unless you are applying to jobs in that industry.

EIT in progress – be prepared to discuss what this means with employers. I would want to know if this means you already have your EIT, or if you are currently studying for it. If just studying for it, you could leave it off until you earn it.

Under "Relevant Experience", I think its great that each of your jobs has clear bullet points that very briefly explain what you worked on and the impact it had. In my opinion, this is the strongest and clearest part of your resume.

As a friendly note – it appears that your Google Scholar link is broken.

Best of luck in your job search.

    Posted 09-16-2025 06:17 PM

Hi Meghana, please find my review of your resume below:

I believe that you should consider greatly shortening the first page of your resume. Much of the top half is "telling the reader what your skills are" rather than "showing the reader what your skills are". The bottom half of your resume does this much better.

I believe the summary section of your resume can be shortened to 2-3 sentences at most. Remove words like "top-performing and resourceful" and instead make sure that your resume is showing those things, rather than just writing down that you are those things.

Additionally, everything you have in bold beneath your first two paragraphs could be moved to your Technical Skills section or Education section, if it is not there already.

You can likely reduce the length of your Education section without sacrificing any content using the same suggestions as I made for the top part of your first page as well.

If you want to save even more space, you can consider changing the format of your Professional Experience section as well. One option would be to keep the names and titles of your work experience in India, but list those as 3 lines, one below the other. Then, provide a summary of the type of work you performed at all 3 jobs in the space beneath that, so you can remove anything redundant between positions. The goal of a resume is not necessarily to list everything you have ever done, but instead to tell a story that explains what you know how to do, tailored to each job you apply to.

Best of luck in your job search.

Good morning Kwabena, please find my review of your resume below. Your resume is already in very good shape so my comments are few.

This is a good professional summary that could be even shorter with slightly less detail, which you can share and elaborate more on in your jobs and skills sections. Also, its unclear if you are an EIT or not based on your last sentence in your professional summary. If you are, add EIT after your name so that it is immediately obvious.

Under Technical Skills, consider expanding margins or removing one line somewhere else to get that last bullet point on the same page as the rest of your technical skills.

    Best of luck to you.

Hi Naresh, please find a few resume suggestions below:

You can likely save more space on your resume by changing the format of the section just below your name. The links to your different internet locations can all be on one line. You could also more your phone number next to your home address. Just make sure to label it.

I'm going to suggest a grammar change for your Research Interests. Consider changing this to "Professional Interests" if you are planning to apply to any opportunities outside of academia.

Under "Education" it may be more valuable to expand on your thesis work and project work, instead of listing all of the courses you took in school.

Remove "..Etc" from the end of your Major Courses

Standardize the format of your dates under Work History.

If you want to work in industry or anything outside of academia, you may wish to expand on your work as a Site Engineer rather than just list the title of the job.

I would suggest moving "Computer Skills" so that it is just below "Work Experience" as this section is more valuable than the others currently before it.

Good luck in your job search.

    Comments:

    • I would not include the professional summary. While common, I don't think they add anything of value to the reviewer since they start to all sound very similar. Fair or not, I think a lot of people skim or skip large sections of text when they're doing a first pass. The kinds of qualities listed, such as "detail-oriented" should be shown through the rest of the resume/interview, not just stated.
    • I recommend replacing the professional summary with a brief objective statement. For example "Seeking internship for summer 2026 in Geotechnical Engineering"
    • I recommend eliminating "soft skills" or intangible qualities under Skills and keeping those to specialty software, coding, materials testing,  languages, etc. Again, you want to "show" not "tell" those other skills since anyone can say they're organized or motivated whether or not they are. For now, I would remove the skills section and include your materials testing skill under your work experience.
    • As a student and in early career, a resume should typically be held to one side of one page.
    • List your work experience from most recent to least recent.
    • Change the bullet point verbs to past tense for work that has stopped (anything with an end date instead of "present")
    • I would make Extracurricular Activities and Leadership its own section instead of nested under Education
    • On the extracurriculars, I would take off the additional information beyond the organization and roles/titles. What you specifically did is a great thing to discuss in an interview. You can think of a resume as a movie trailer -- you want to hook them in but not give away all the details
    • I would remove all of your high school information now that your freshman year of college is complete.
    • I would add a line at the bottom that says "References available upon request" or make them the only thing that prints on the back of your page.
    • I wouldn't repeat your contact info again at the end since you have it at the top of the first page.
    • If you remove the skills, delete the high school information, move the dates right-aligned across from the experience/education, and reduce some of the extra white space, I think you can fit it all to one page without losing any of the information a recruiter will be looking for.

Overall, it seems you're on a great path so far as a student. Keep it up!

    • You could remove the "Microsoft Applications" section if you want or if you need room to add anything else on that side in the future since that is understood to be a skill acquired by all university students these days
    • Overall a great resume that demonstrates skills through the experience listed and gives a great amount of extracurricular context for an interviewer to ask questions around
    • My one suggestion for revision would be to add an "Objective" section at the top under your contact information that tells what you are looking for. For example "Seeking summer 2026 internship in civil engineering"

It looks like you have a very well-rounded college experience so far. Keep up the good work!

(As a random side note: I was an honors Civil Engineering student with a sister who majored in Dance, so I thought it was fun that you have all three on your resume!)

    • I recommend against including Professional Summaries. They are typically a repeat of information that is or should be in other places in the resume, and it is a less "skimmable" format for someone who is sorting through resumes for a company or organization.
    • I would replace the Professional Summary with an Objective section. It can be very brief and say something like "Seeking full-time employment in civil engineering with a focus in water/wastewater treatment." That way, whoever receives your resume knows at a glance why they're receiving it or who to pass it along to for consideration.
    • I would move the Certifications section to the end of the first page and take off the "Additional Courses &" part of the title of the section. Reduce the bullet points under the experience section as needed to make it fit.
    • Keep in mind that a resume is like a movie trailer -- it should be short and sweet, enough to make someone want to know more, and give an accurate idea of what the full story will be about. You need to give enough information that they understand your skill and abilities, but the full scope of the details can be saved for an interview.
    • Reduce repeating information. For example, you have all your software listed in one place that is easy to ready quickly. You don't need to list all that software again throughout the details of your experience section.
    • it looks like you have an extra period at the end of your last line under Graduate Research Assistant
    • I did not read all of the information under Projects & Publications. If you want to include this in your resume, it should be printed on the back of the first page. If you think these projects and publications would be of interest to the employers you are looking to work for, you can leave them. If you don't foresee them reading through all of it, you can exclude it. You could also have a line at the end of your front page that says something like "List of projects and publications available upon request"

Best of luck as you continue in your career!

    • If you are going to submit your resume online to an employer, make sure you change the title of the file to not have "Edited" in it
    • Add an Objective section to the top that says "Seeking full-time employment in sustainability consulting for June 2026" or something along those lines. You can tailor this line for each job you apply for, and you can keep it more broad for career fairs or portals where you're connecting to multiple employers
    • When you add the Objective line, be sure your resume stays to one page

Overall a great format and easy to read. Best of luck as you wrap up your college career and enter the workforce!

    • I would take off the bullet points under the study abroad section so you have a little room to increase the font on the rest of the document and stay to one page. The study abroad in Environmental Engineering is like a teaser for them to want to know more about it. The interview is a great place to tell them about that experience and what it included.
    • I think you can add your ASCE Sustainable Solutions participation in the line under the ASCE SU Chapter OR change your Leadership Experience heading to Extracurricular Activities and Leadership and move your memberships/participation down there

Overall great resume content. I wish you well as you finish up your degree!

    Jomyuth,

You have a well-organized and informative resume.  My minor comment would be to move the "NYU Concrete Canoe Team" under "Activities".  Also, you have excellent diverse experience but your resume should include an "Objective" statement - what type of position are you looking for? In what discipline - you have both design and CM experience? Also, the "Objective" statement can be modified to meet the requirements of the position you're submitting for so do not be fixed into one statement.  With your international experience and background, I think your resume will attract attention from employers - good luck to you in the future.

    Ryan,

Your resume needs some formatting - the titles of the sections should be bolded and underlined to stand out.  Additionally, i think your name is too big and it looks like you are trying to fill in space.  There are better places to do this.  First of all, your "summary" should be renamed to "Objective" and be more specific - this objective statement can be changed to meet the job posting that you are submitting for but it needs to specifically answer the job posting - your summary is too generic.  Pick an a field (CM, Design, etc) and stick with it and/or re-write the objective for each employer.  Under Education, I am not a fan of relevant coursework - its an unnecessary filler as we have all attended Engineering school.  Also, remove the word Junior since you have included a graduation date.  I think your Experience with TDOT should be expanded - employers are looking for candidates with experience and you have some but your descriptions are lackluster - be more specific about what you did, the types of projects if you are not allowed to be name specific, and remove your ACI score - its irrelevant, the key is that you obtained that certification.  Under "Awards" expand on "Benjamin Hooks Institute" - what is it? Same for AISC Bridge Competition - explain how you won - what did you do?  These are better ways to fill the resumes and make you more appealing to employers.  Under Skills, move the Leadership item up to Achievements and expand on it.  When re-writing these items - bullets make it easier for the resume reviewers while also helping with format and filling the space.  Good luck to you in the future and I hope my comments help.

    Eric,

You need to re-format this resume to one page.  Most employers reserve multi-page resumes to candidates with 10+ years of experience.

I am glad you have an objective statement - this statement should be re-written and centered around the position you are applying to.  Make it as specific as possible.  Under your "Work Experience", I don't understand why there are 2 separate timeframes when they appear to be continuous and there was no change in title - I would review and combine. Your comments under "Organizations" are very generic - what did you do while being a member of these organizations? Get more specific.  Also, delete your school's name - it's obvious that these were school activities.

With your lack of an intership, I would move your Academic Projects above Organizations and expand on these write-ups to demonstrate engineering experience.

Good luck to you in the future and I hope my comments assist you.

    Oscar,

You need to re-format your resume to one page - there is plenty of room if you play with the margins.  I like that you have an Objective statement and that it is specific.  I would move Skills to the bottom of the resume and combine as necessary to fit on one page.  Under Education, remove coursework and high school reference.  Under your college, I find the dates confusing - change to Expected Graduation #month#year.  I think your Experience section is well detailed (for space, you can delete the collaborated comments).  Your projects section is well-written also.

I think if you make the formatting changes and condense to one page, you will have a solid resume that will attract employers.  Good luck to you in the future.

    Christopher,

I really like the format of your resume - it will catch the eye of employers when reviewing, but, as a student - we need you to work on the format to get it down to one page.  Your name is super large and can be shrunk to add space.  Change Summary to Objective - what are you looking to do? This objective should be fluid and re-written or modified to match the position you are applying to.  It also needs to be specific.  Under Education, delete your high school reference, moved LinkedIn to Skills and under your college - "Expected Graduation #Month#Year.  Delete the list of references and replace with "References Available Upon Request".  I would also delete the hobbies and move extra-curriculars to the green box.  You also need to expand on your 2-work experience - Evike & Port of Long Beach.  Port of Long Beach shows your Engineering experience and Evike shows that you are industrious - highlight and expand on these more but it needs to fit on one page.

Good luck to you in the future and I hope my comments help you.

    Alina,

Your format looks good – I can tell at a glance that your previous job was water-focused, and that a few water courses appear in your Education section. If you really want to double-down and focus on that for a career path, consider taking out a few lines related to your other jobs and expand on whatever other water experience you may have. This could be from your previous job or it could be labs, experiments, or class projects in school. You can also add a single Professional Summary line just above your work experience that briefly describes your (water-related) background and goal. This can be slightly adjusted for each job you apply to.

If possible, it may also be worth trying to find some kind of class or coursework related to some form of modeling software – SWMM, HEC-RAS, or HEC-HMS. I do see that you have listed experience with WaterGEMS and ArcGIS which will be a plus.

In my opinion a resume is meant to tell a story. Feel free to have different versions of your resume ready to submit based on the type of job you wish to get.

    Good luck!

    Hi Victor,

Your resume has good information and is clearly laid out. My biggest comment is that it is best to keep it to one page at this stage in your career. You can probably get it close just by rearranging/reducing white space. I left a few other comments on places where you could shorten or expand your descriptions.

Hi Sam, please find some comments below:
If you are applying to jobs in the USA – please remove your photo of yourself as this could disqualify you from consideration at many jobs.

The Sports section of your resume can be deleted. So can your high school. Possibly also your Gradings section since many jobs in the USA will not understand its significance. Feel free to keep this if you are applying to jobs in India. Your References section can also be removed.

Your Work Experience section is interesting, but the current content leads me to assume you are interested in pursuing a career in social media or communications. As you continue through your academic career, consider replacing the things that are least-related to what you want to do with course work, lab experiments, and class projects.

Consider a section for "Technical Skills" where you can list the programs and software that you are familiar with.

The general format of your resume is good, although you may want to consider removing the blue section if you delete the majority of the content within it.

    Best of luck to you.

Hi Greg, a few comments below.

You have done a good job of listing your skills from your previous career. As you continue to progress through your degree, consider replacing some of the technical skills that don't apply to the jobs you want to chase with more relevant course work, lab experiments, or projects. This way you can continue to show your existing, transferrable experience in professional work environments and dealing with communication of sensitive issues with clients along with an understanding of more industry-specific topics next.

    Best of luck.

Hi Devin, please find a few comments below. Your format is fine and easy to follow, and it seems like you did a good job of trying to show what you've managed to accomplish in your first year of college.

    Objective section:

I like the general idea of your Objective section. It shows what you want, and what you have to offer. You might be able to tweak the message slightly to shift the balance more to "here's what you can do and where you'd like to invest yourself" but this can be tweaked for each job to which you apply.

    Education section:

Unless your high school is a widely-recognized selective institution, you can leave it off and save the space once you need it for something else. I understand why you have included it given that you are still an early-stage undergraduate.

Normally I don't tell people to include too much about the courses they have taken, but since you appear to be looking for a first internship, these may be some additional items to highlight at present. In lieu of projects at work, you could highlight any class projects you have undertaken or labs that you have performed experiments in.

    Projects and Experience section:

There is likely some potential here to expand a little more on the background of what this project was about, rather than just what specific tasks you performed.

A future idea: consider taking on a personal project if you have the time. If you want to focus on drafting skills, you could draw some sort of poster/character/sport/etc that you are interested in. Or even try to replicate some aspect of your home.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Hi Amanuel,

In your "Professional Summary" Section, consider removing "Recognized for integrity, collaboration, and technical proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, STAAD.Pro and other software. Skilled in team leadership, client relations, budgeting, and quality assurance, with a strong focus on project delivery."

Focus on showing these things rather than saying them. I do see that you have listed the technical skills again just below, which is good.

Overall your format is clear and easy to follow. Be prepared to quantify or expand on how you achieved X% improvements in all of the bullets you listed in your job descriptions when you interview.

    Best of luck!

I have reviewed your resume and you have a lot of great content. I suggest trying to shrink your resume down to a single page. I have made my comments on how to do this with some other minor comments to make your resume stronger. Please let me know if you have any questions on my comments. Nice work!

    John:

Near perfect; however, the major element is missing --->> OBJECTIVE.  This will require navigating beyond one page.  I recommend seeking a "public sector" position insofar as to leverage your double major (Civil Engineering and Social Sciences).  I like how you leveraged skills such as coaching / leadership / mentoring via life long achievements in athletics.  Additional value can be obtained (and noted) from an EIT and Certificates of Training.  All the best -- David

I like the two logos.  However; caution on the QR code as many applications have a MB limitation if sending electronically.  Please integrate the elements mentioned on "summary" within your achievements (a few points repeat such as ASCE 7-16 -- emphasize them once) and replace with a bold / robust statement of your "objective."  Recommend filtering new codes on you resume implying skill progression.  Additionally, there is value added via blogs / certifications / publications.  All the best --- David

These large scale west coast firms are seeking to grow their staff within the areas you have expressed an interest --->> BOOZ ALLEN HAMILTON, CALTRANS, HOK and PARSONS.  Obviously, I am NOT playing favorites!!  There are more good firms.  Many large-scale firms do not advertise and go upon a sponsor's tip (perhaps one of your references).  Additionally, please read the ASCE Journal and send a letter of interest highlighting your common skills to the authors.  This should open the door for you and build / generate a bond to their culture.  If you are willing to accept risk, then entrepreneurship / partnership is also a possibility.  Remember that Government (Federal, State, Local) embraces Small Business.  There are many ways to skin a cat and it is really up to you (persistence is key).  Keep the faith!!

Unfortunately, your resume needs to be restructured showing a logical hierarchy of emphasis (objective, education, certification, experience, skills, activities, awards, general).  There are too many dangling pieces.  Additionally, avoid the "orange" color.  I am confident that this can be accomplished within a few hours and I am willing to provide a follow up review.  All the best --- David

    Hi Tobias,

You have a good start here. I recommend consolidating your resume onto one page, which shouldn't be too difficult since there is a fair amount of white space on the two pages. Your bullets do a good job of describing your tasks, but they could use a little more detail, so I left a few comments/questions about that. I also left some proofreading comments.

    Best of luck,

    Katie

    Hi Kunle,

    Thank you for your submission!

    • In case folks are printing this out, I would recommend you include the full URL of your LinkedIn. You can customize your URL by following the instructions here: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a542685/manage-your-public-profile-url?lang=en
    • If you aren't able to break down the GPA per degree, I would recommend online including "3.86/4.00" once
    • For the skills section, you could add what version of the program (i.e. AutoCAD 2020 or Bentley OpenRoads Designer 10.12)
    • I would recommend removing the Award amount from all your awards and scholarships
    • This looks more like a CV than a resume. I would recommend making your resume from the highlights of this CV.

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    Hi Luis,

Thank you for submitting your resume! Overall, this is a great resume as a one-page summary of your skills and experience.

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    ·         Before you submit this on any online portal, I would recommend that you make sure this is ATS friendly. Typically, the progress bars in the skill section are not the easiest for automated systems to read.

    ·         With 5 years of experience, I would recommend removing Education farther down on your resume since that isn't as relevant at your level of experience.

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    Hi Denis,

Thank you for submitting your resume! Overall, this is a good resume as a one-page summary of your skills and experience.

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    ·         It looks like your BD and MS dates are different font sizes. I would recommend changing this to the same font size.

    ·         For the skills section, you could add what version of the program (i.e. AutoCAD 2020 or Bentley OpenRoads Designer 10.12)

    ·         For the experience section, can you add more quantitative experience? Even just adding a range of construction costs would be helpful so I can better understand the scope of projects you worked on.

    ·         While it is great to list out your leadership experiences, I would love to see more about the skills you are learning in these roles. Has being VP of SCSU-ITE taught you communication skills? Has being a Swahili Instructor taught you public speaking skills?

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    Hi Levi,

Thank you for submitting your resume!

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    ·         When I downloaded this file, it showed that was a Google Doc, so I am thinking this was the reason there was formatting issues. I would fix the spacing throughout to be more balanced.

    ·          I would align all dates to the right side of your resume to also help with balance.

    ·         Congratulations on being Captain of your ASCE Transportation Design Project! Can you add a few bullet points here on what skills you are learning in this role?

    ·         I would capitalize "Experience" as part of "Work Experience".

    ·         It looks like both your jobs are present roles. In that case, I would write them both in present tense.

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    Hi Dan,

Thank you for submitting your resume!

A few suggestions on ways you can further improve your resume:

    ·         If you are including your Associate Degree GPA, I would recommend also including your current GPA to be consistent

    ·         For the experience section, can you add more quantitative experience? Even including how many different projects you were working on simultaneously is helpful to show time management skills. Another example is for the Dayton Social Club, add the number of team members "worked with a team of 18 to create events".

    Hope this helps!

    Sincerely,

    Dani

    • Do not include high school education. Since you have a higher degree, that isn't relevant to a recruiter anymore.
    • Don't include "soft skills" in your skills section. Anyone can claim to be a leader or detail-oriented, but that doesn't mean they are. Those tend to be ignored since most people use similar words. Instead, you want to demonstrate those skills by what you include throughout the resume and in how you answer interview questions. For example, instead of saying you're good a teamwork, you have an example of working in a group under your experience section. I would reduce your skills section to just AutoCAD and REVIT and change the name to SOFTWARE instead of SKILLS since your languages are also skills.
    • Change your Professional Overview to an Objective section and list what you are seeking. For example, "Seeking summer internship in Civil Engineering for summer 2026." Similar to the skills, it doesn't add much value to claim intangible skills, and the other content in already able to be found in your resume. With a come page document, you don't need a summary at the top. The objective statement will help someone receiving your resume to know what you're looking for or who to give the resume to for review.
    • Remove the comma before "to discuss projects updates" in the second bullet point under your museum experience
    • Change the description under your ECRAM section to "Inspected roadways" and then expand on what you mean by that (what kind of inspection)

Best of luck as you continue your studies!

    • At the top of your resume (between your contact information and the first sentence, add what you are looking for. For example, "Seeking full-time employment in structural engineering"
    • I would not include tuition waivers on a resume. Since you already have the graduate assistant roles later on, you could remove the Academic Awards and Honors section altogether
    • I would reorder the resume depending on the type of role you're applying for. Something in academia will put more weight on research and projects, but an industry role will likely look more closely at your work experience.
    • Again, how detailed you get will depend on the work you're seeking, but I think you could really condense down the bullet points under your work experience to have a little less detail without losing the overall effect.
    • Ideally, your resume would be just one page when you apply for a position. Again, this may vary based on the type of role you're applying for, so you could pick and choose what you leave in, move around, or remove based on what you're using that version of your resume for.

Best of luck as you continue your doctoral studies!

    •  I would delete the professional profile. I would replace it with a brief Objective statement like "Seeking summer 2026 civil engineering internship with a focus in traffic or transportation." Put yourself in the shoes of a recruiter receiving 50 resumes in a day -- you would want to be able to, at a glance, know which role the resume is for so you can sort it or get it into the hands of the correct reviewer.
    • I would consider taking the Microsoft Office Suite out of your skills. Most employers today expect that to be a default skill of all college students, so it won't help you stand out.
    • I would take the  HSF (Hispanic Scholarship Fund) Scholar line and move it down below the ASHE scholarship line under Awards

Overall it is a great format to read, and it seems you have some pretty neat previous experience. Best of luck as you wrap up your degree!

    • If you are going to print your resume and take it to a career fair or other event, be sure to swap out your hyperlinks for the URLs instead
    • make the first line of your professional summary more specific -- it is very vague as is and doesn't give me an idea what you actually do
    • Add a line about what you're looking for -- for example "Seeking full-time engineering employment opportunities with a focus architectural engineering"
    • I would take off the Collaborative Tools  section -- it is understood in today's environment that everyone can use those types of tools
    • Depending on the role you are seeking, I would rearrange the sections of your resume to prioritize the sections you think are most important to that role/organization

Best of luck as you progress through your doctoral studies!

    • I would revise your summary to state what you're seeking (if you're seeking employment right now). For example, you could edit the first sentence to say something like," Civil Engineering PH.D. candidate with experience in transportation safety, human factors, data analysis, and statistical modeling seeking part-time employment opportunities within these areas of expertise."
    • I would also exclude the software from the summary since there is a section for that already.
    • On your Engineer-in-Training, include the state where you are registered as an EIT in parenthesis. For example, "Engineer-in-Training (Arizona)"
    • Since your Volunteer item is the oldest, I would move that section to the bottom of Service

Overall I like that your resume is easy to skim in case someone is looking for something specific. Best of luck as you continue your doctoral studies!

    Mandip,

I think you have a decent resume that could use some quick edits to make it more attractive to employers.  I like a succinct and direct Objective statement but yours might be too short - I would recommend adding "to continue gaining valuable engineering experience to further my career." - you do not have to use my exact wording - make it your own.  I am usually not a fan of Relevant Coursework but since you are a Masters student, I find it to add value to your resume, but I would remove it for the undergraduate work.  Skills should be moved down towards the end of the page (keep it one page - reformat as necessary).  Your Experience should follow your Education.  For your GeoLab experience, I would expand on these descriptions - employers are looking for staff with experience, even for internships so expand on it to make it more interesting - be more specific instead of general.  My last comment is what is Nepal Engineering Council (Registered number: 78003)? Does this mean you are a PE in Nepal - many employers may not know this so I would suggest putting (Professional Engineer) next to it to confirm this for employers.  Having your PE makes you a more desirable candidate to employers.

I hope my comments help and good luck to you.

    • On your languages, consider adding the level of proficiency with each (primary fluency, professional working proficiency, full professional fluency, etc.)
    • I like the format you've chosen because it is easy at a glance to find all the relevant information.
    • I recommend you seek out volunteer opportunities so that you can show some other skills and that you are well-rounded and involved outside of your schooling/career. You can decrease the font size of your resume some (don't go below 10pt font) so there is room for a VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE section
    • Delete the blank second page of your resume file

It looks like you're on a great path to a successful career in Geotechnical Engineering. Best of luck!

    Tanzila,

You have an excellent, well formatted resume.  I think my only comments or advice is that your Objective statement is well written but generic - plan on updating that to be more specific for each position you apply for. Make it mirror or answer the job posting.

Also, since you are seeking your PhD, I would remove the relevant coursework and replace it with your specific thesis or studies that pertain to your PhD - I think this will better attract the attention of employers.  Most times engineers review these resumes and we all know the coursework - its not the "WOW" factor that they're looking for.

Overall - you have an excellent resume (easily an A) and my comments are merely suggestions to help you get to an A+ - good luck to you in the future.

    Eunice,

You have packed a great deal of information into your resume but it may overwhelm employers while reviewing so I would suggest some re-formatting.  First, your Summary statement is too long and wordy.  I would suggest changing it to an Objective Statment - what position are you looking for? In what field? NOTE: this is a fluid statement and should change to match the position you are applying for - I always tell people "Answer the employer's question, not your own"  I think this would help to supplement all of the other great information that you have.  Next comment, Experience needs to come after Education - as a resume reviewer, I want to see your experience and not have to search for it - your Experience Section is well written and provides good specificity.  I prefer your resume be one page so you will need to do some re-formatting because you have a great deal of good information between your projects, volunteering and memberships.  I would suggest trying to combine and/or edit some of these items to fit within one page.  If you had to sacrifice anything, I think your resume does not need the Skills section with all of your other information.

Overall, I am very impressed with your experience and work ethic so I hope my suggestions are helpful.  Good luck to you in the future.

For your CM Resume, your resume needs some formatting and editing - I think there is way too much information and recruiters will not take the necessary time to review your resume properly.  Change your Profile Summary to Objective Statement and this statement should be specific to the position you are applying to and succinct - 2 to 3 sentences MAX.  Under Education - remove the key courses.  Since you are seeking a Master's, you could specify any Major or Minor but the courses are unnecessary.  Experience should be the next section - employers want to look at your experience more than anything else on your resume to see if you are the right fit.  Your Skills Section is excessive and you should combine Skills, Software and the Professional Development into one section - there is a great deal of overlap and re-statement of similar topics.  Your professional development should be handled by your descriptions in your experience.  When you reformat, it should be Objective, Education, Experience, Projects and some combination of the other sections.

For your SE resume, all of my same comments apply.  The only difference between these 2 resumes should be the Objective statement where very quickly you provide the future employer with a specific reason to hire you (based on their job description).

I hope my comments help you and good luck in the future.

    Maria,

As you have more years of experience than many of the other candidates I have reviewed, your format should be different.  You definitely need an Objective statement - 2 to 3 sentences which states specifically why you are the candidate for a specific job posting.  This language is fluid and should change with the language of each job posting. Make sure to answer the employer's question.

Secondly, your experience should come after the objective statement.  As a veteran engineer with almost 10 years of experience, employers are more concerned with your experience vs. your education.  Your Experience is well written and moving it up will attract more employers.  I would shift, Education, License and Skills to the bottom of the resume.  I like your section on Leadership and I think these small tweaks to the format should help immensely.

Good luck to you in the future.

    Pradeep,

Good content but you need some re-formatting.  First, change Summary to Objective statement and tell the future employer why they should hire you, paraphrasing parts of their job posting.  You should write 2-3 sentences that are specific to that.  Summarizing your resume is an invitation for people to read that and not look further.  I would move your education up just below Objective because you are currently seeking your Masters. It is too far down on a 2-page resume.  Experience should come next - this is what employers are looking for.  Under your first experience item, I would delete Intern - it's confusing with all of your other experience - that's better suited for a conversation during an interview.  I think the rest of your resume has solid information which will be attractive to an employer.  PLEASE spell check - Volunteer is spelled wrong and misspellings can be detrimental to any solid resume.

Good luck to you in the future.

    Lucina,

In my experience, these is no bad experience to show on a resume.  People change professions all the time, especially within the engineering field.  As you apply for positions, my recommendation would be to change Summary to Objective and clearly state that while answering the advertisement specifically.  2-3 sentences, maybe 4 because of your wide range of experience.  You have stated you are flexible above but when responding to an advertisement, your Objective Statement should be specific, answer the employer's needs and state your versatility and breadth of experience.  Remove the word Relevant and just call it Experience.

I would also recommend moving skills to the bottom and letting your experience and objective statement do the main talking.  I think you have a solid resume and experience that will attract employers and I wish you luck in the future - I hope my comments have helped.

    Austin,

I like the format of the resume but it needs some re-shuffling and re-writes in certain sections.

First of all, change the red font to black - I do not think that enhances your resume, nor does the 4 words, Engineer, Leader, Analyst, ProblemSolver.  If you want to make those statements, back them up in your experience write-ups which are too bulletinized and lack specificity.  You have been in the industry for approximately six years so I am fine with Experience before Education but Skills and License belong towards the bottom and Experience needs to be at the top after an Objective Statement which you do not have.  Objective statements are important and demonstrate that you reviewed the advertisement and you are answering it with 2-3 sentences.  You have some good elements to your resumes but they need to be expanded.  Your resume has too much empty space and not giving an employer a clear picture of you and why you should stand out from other candidate.  As I said, expand your experience and talk in specifics, not abstracts.

    Pragun,

I have reviewed your resume and there is not much I would change. Your resume has a professional format, is easy to navigate, and includes a lot of great content. I would suggest adding an Objective Statement to your resume and try to keep your resume to a single page. Attached are my comments with examples of how I feel your resume can be improved. Please let me know if you have any questions on my comments. Great work!

    Hi,

My resume is attached for review. I appreciate your feedback. My path is unconventional, but I want to move away from technical design. My current role is program management and would like to strengthen my resume for a future role in this. Any courses or certificates recommendation are welcome.

    Thank you,

This is a recent resume for an oil and gas AIML consulting role with EY. However, I have been adding to an old resume format for years and may need a redesign or at least a professional review.

Thank you very much for your response and kind words. I truly appreciate it. I have updated my resume based on your comments, and I believe it has improved significantly. One last question: Should I mention that my Master of Science degree was earned part-time, on campus, not online, or will it be understood since it took five years to complete? I have attached my resume again, not for re-evaluation, but to ensure that this is what you meant by re-organization.

I do not think you need to specify that your Masters degree was obtained part-time, as your Professional Experience shows that you were working during the same time as your Masters degree, which will confirm that you were working while getting your Masters degree.

    Pragun,

Your resume is excellent and filled with great information, but you are missing an Objective Statement - with your variety of experience and education, you need to let employers know exactly what type of position you are looking for.  Your Objective statement can be fluid also and be changed to match a variety of different positions that you are applying for.  Also, you need to re-arrange your topics - your resume should start Objective, Education, and Experience.  The rest I would leave to your discretion but I think certifications and skills should be next.  Academic Projects should be moved to the end and/or deleted to make room for the Objective.  Another space saver could be to delete relevant courses as I find this to be extraneous in most resumes I review. Otherwise, I think you have done an excellent job in your organization and writing.

Good luck to you in the future and I hope this helps.

    Shayan,

Your resume is packed with great information.  My main comment is to change the Summary to an Objective statement - what type of position are you looking for? What field are you looking for? The objective statement can be fluid and you should change it to specifically answer the job advertisement.  I am usually pushing people to keep their resumes to one page but due to your professional and research experience, I am fine with the format.  When are you graduating? I would include a forecasted graduation date.  I would also try to expand your write-up on your professional experience - employers are going to look at this section more than your research experience.

Good luck to you in the future and I hope this helps.

    Joseph,

Your resume needs some reformatting and re-write of the content.  First of all, you need an Objective statement - what type of position are you looking for? This Objective statement can be tailored to each position you apply for but it gives the recruiter a good idea about you - it should be 2-3 sentences, specific to the job advertisement that you are applying to.  Under Education, for Ozarks, you should list expected date of graduation and your major.  Some of the other items listed should be moved to a separate section for volunteering and professional organizations.  For DeAnza, did you receive a degree? Graduated? Also, the other items listed under this college should be moved to the same section I mentioned.  I would delete the high school reference.

For your experience, I think you need to expand on the write-up.  It's too bulletinized and generic.  You do not have engineering experience, but your experience demonstrates a work ethic that employers would like to see.  Also, under your skills, you do not properly highlight your multi-lingual skills which employers will be attracted to.

As you edit the resume, remember to keep it to 1 page - good luck to you in the future.

Question --->>  What have you been doing since April 2025?  This seems to be impacting your resume.  Showing continuous grow will help (even if listing volunteer activities).  Additionally, the resume format is non-traditional from those of other applicants.  I like how you crafted the format; however, recruiters will find the navigation to be different.  There is a lot of government activity going on around Springfield, MA IE New Courthouse in Hartford, CT so keep an eye open to that possibility.  All the best -- David

Please express your OBJECTIVE in lieu of a SUMMARY statement.  I am a little confused on your education saying Netherlands in Nov 2025 and NC State in Dec 2025.  Please be careful on these dates being 30 days apart (Would this be a transfer?) (Would this be an internship?).  Please note with accuracy.  NOT sure as to how this will be received from recruiters.  However, I would like to have at least six months (and preferably one or two years) matriculation from one school to another unless it is a specialized study program which should be noted as such.

Typically, no "self photographs" on a resume.  Remove the color, too.  Your "Objective" is missing.  Skills (and subsequent) grey highlights does not add any value to your resume and can be eliminated.  Rather, show how these skills were applied throughout your experience.  Additionally, stating codes is really vague.  What codes?  Question 1 --->> Any publications insofar as a follow-up to your presentation?  Question 2 --->> What have you been doing since April 2025?  This seems to be impacting your resume.  Show some continuous growth (even if volunteer activities).  Hope these observations help!!  All the best -- David

You have demonstrated your significant subject matter expert knowledge.  What other natural disaster experience do you have beyond seismology?  Please include those elements; too.  Remember to include your "OBJECTIVE" statement.  Are you seeking a P.E. or following the academic arena?  Talking with many colleagues throughout my career has suggested that this transition can be really difficult.  Certainly you have written a few publications -- please include them.  Additionally, I would have expected to observe the wording "forensic" within your skill set.  Including forensic activity via your research will add value for you.  Hopefully, these small observations help.  All the best, David

    Hi Jesse,

This is a good resume with a fine format. Please consider a few adjustments related to content.

Allow for a single line for an Objective Statement or Professional Summary section in order to give a one-line description of who you are (senior civil engineering student looking for a full time job primarily in office at a larger company anywhere in the country.) However it will be better to tailor this line to each firm you apply to. Let your resume "tell a story" to each job so that they can see why you applied and how your skills match up with the position you're looking for.

EDUCATION section – I would consider reducing the amount of coursework you list as most of these appear to be part of a standard civil engineering curriculum. However, there is likely much more that you could expand on in your EXPERIENCE section to take its place. Your most recent internship seems a good place to start. "Designed railroads, sanitary sewer systems" alone can likely be expanded on.

INVOLVEMENT section – change work to past-tense to match the tone of your other previously-completed work. This section can also be shortened if you need more space for changes suggested in the comment above this one.

    Best of luck.

    Hello Amritha,

Your format is straightforward and clear. No issues there.

In your Objective, you may be able to save space by removing "Dedicated and detail-oriented" just because anyone can say these things. I personally find that the content of the resume should be what shows these things instead. I think most of what you write in your Experience section does showcase this.

If you are applying to jobs in the USA, you may not need to list any education before your Bachelor degree.

If you find that places you apply are only looking for a 1-page resume – consider the following:

    1.       1. remove redundant tasks that occurred at any old jobs and let that information remain in your most current.

    2.       2. Remove the information about your high school

    3.       3. Remove your REFERENCES section

    4.       4. Reduce Project Involved down to "Notable Projects" and pick the best with whatever space is left.

Excellent resume but you need an Objective Statement and it cannot be as broad as your description above "I am interested in pursuing roles such as Project Engineer, Design Engineer, VDC Engineer, Project Scheduler, Construction management intern, Project coordinator, and Project Manager for any projects with large-scale companies."

Your Objective Statement needs to be specific and answer the question posed by an employer in their advertisement so I think you should draft a few different Objectives since you are undecided on which path you wish to take - which by the way, is perfectly normal in the Engineering field.  I did 6 months in Design and 34 years in Construction Management, and I have colleagues that have gone in the other direction.  The great part about the Engineering field is the diversity of opportunities to find your niche.

Your resume, experience and academics is excellent so put 2-3 sentences in your Objective Statement which tells the employer the position and direction that you want to take your career.  If you need to make room for the Objective, I do not think your resume would suffer if you removed the Projects since you have extensive experience and publications which are more important to prospective employers.

Good luck to you in the future and I hope my suggestions help.

    Nancy,

You have an excellent resume and it is nicely formatted.  My only comment is change Professional Summary to Objective Statement - tell the employers that you are submitting to "what are you looking for" - be specific in 2-3 sentences and remember that this Objective statement is fluid - change it as necessary to make sure you are answering the advertisement and not just submitting a generic response.  Otherwise, I think your experience and content is excellent and you will see activity when you send it out.

Good luck to you in the future.

    Hello,

I created a post and thought I posted already but I can't find the post in the thread, so I will give it a second try. I hadn't registered for the workshop event and I am not sure if that is related to not finding my post. Please see my resume attached. Thanks!

    Paula,

Good resume but I think your Objective statement needs to be more specific - are you looking for more design experience? Are you looking to move into CM?  And if you don't know, that's ok because you can modify the objective statement for the different positions that you will apply for but I found your current one to be vague and I was trying to guess your motivation.  Your Objective statement needs to clearly tell recruiters what you want.  Also, after your education, I would move your Experience up - you have been in the industry for a few years but a short enough time that your education will play into the selection process but as you become a more seasoned Engineer, your experience is the key factor that employers are looking for so it needs to be front and center (and close to the top).

For your Experience - I think you need to reduce the items for EIC and expand on your latest experience - show your growth through your various experiences.    You have excellent experience but you need to highlight it more.  Also, you are a PE - that's excellent and I would suggest including that in your title block (NJ PE - #####) - I do not think you need the attorney general reference.

I hope these comments help and good luck to you in the future.

    Nate,

Great resume with good content but I think you need a few re-formats.  First of all, change Summary to Objective Statement - what are you looking for in your next position? You have had a previous internship - in 2-3 sentences, let future employers know what you are looking for.  Also, under Experience, I think you are under-selling your Engineering and experience and over-selling the rest of your resume.  Think about shortening the wordiness in Projects and Campus Involvement and expanding on your internship.  For summer internships, employers are looking at Education and Experience but you have not highlighted a key factor in your resume to its best potential.  I also think Hobbies and Interests isn't needed with all of your experience and activities.

I hope these comments help you and good luck to you in the future.
