    Hi All,

My name is Liang, a graduating master student from Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland. I am trying to get into the industry. I had a Ph.D. in Environmental Geochemistry before I started my engineering studies because I wanted to study engineering to work on more practical applications and improve the quality of the environment. I am trying to get my first job after graduation in May. How could I find the right path to get into the industry of engineering? What can I do about finding the right job? Thank you very much.

    Hi Liang,

Congrats on finishing up your degree. As for finding the "right" career I would say just explore any opportunity you have. It took me personally a handful of companies before I discovered what I wanted. My recommendation would be to go to networking events like the ones your local ASCE chapter hosts, meet other professionals and get your foot in the door. Once you're in the industry it'll be easy to learn what is "right" for you. As for improving the quality of the environment, there are a number of different companies from your local air quality regulatory agency to private engineering firms that practice environmental engineering.

    Hope this helps!

    Best regards,

    Hi Paul,

Thank you for your reply. I will take your suggestions. It is hard to get the first step into the door. Do you know any NGOs that are related to environmental field? Thank you.
