The New Office Checklist for Florida Businesses

Florida businesses must take into account several requirements and considerations when utilizing a new office. Failure to pay attention to requirements can result in legal action. And by not taking into account modern workplace considerations, performance, profit and sustainability are not guaranteed.

Requirements that Must Be Met

A Florida minimum wage sign must be posted to let workers know of their compensation guarantees. Other workplace signage must also be included in a new office. To make sure all signs are accounted for and made available to workers, companies can turn to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Other requirements and safety measures include:

  • Signs Indicating Exits
  • Fire Extinguishers
  • First Aid Kits
  • Emergency Response Plans
  • Utility Set-Ups

Note that some of these requirements must be visible to employees and work-place visitors, i.e. exit signs.

If Moving from One Space to Another Space

It is also important to alert the United States Postal Service if this is a move into a new office. Other companies like UPS and FedEx must also be notified. Current customers must be alerted of a new address change, too. The latter address change notification should be done well in advance and to an extent where all customers have been informed. And don't forget that all business vendors must be notified.

Other preparations for entering a new office mostly relates to office supplies. This especially is the case if this is the first space a business occupies. Additional items to secure include:

  • Pens, Pencils, Highlighters and Paper
  • Ink Cartridges and Toner
  • Paper, Notepads and File Folders
  • Mailing Supplies
  • Tape, Paper Clips and Scissors
  • Hand Soap, Hand Sanitizers and Disinfectant Spray
  • Toilet Paper, Napkins and Feminine Products

Modern Workplace Considerations that Help with Production, Profit and Sustainability

There are numerous trending considerations companies can examine. If they decide to go with these new approaches, there can be many benefits that help increase productivity and ensure profits. This will also help companies committing to sustainability.

Many office spaces are being developed now that encourage an open work-space setup. These open environments help supervisors monitor employees better and foster collaboration and boost productivity. They typically are also cheaper to construct. Companies are also being encouraged to use repurposed items, and that includes office furniture. Sleek and high-end furnishings are being bypassed for products that don't cost nearly as much, and that also do less damage to the environment.

Going Green Can Be Lucrative

Speaking of the environment, companies are turning to more green practices when it comes to everyday life at the office. Businesses are not buying disposable water cups and other traditional one use and done items. Waste is mitigated. Partnering with eco-friendly vendors is also a trend. Today, more than ever, companies are turning to strategies that save them money while also saving Mother Earth.

Keep this New-Office Checklist Handy

Covered above is a checklist that anyone in Florida can reference to help when moving into an office space. Whether a first-ever location or moving to a new spot, business can follow the aforementioned suggestions for an easy and legally protected process.
