    Hello everyone,
I am graduating from my PhD with a focus on wastewater engineering in a couple of months. I am really enthusiastic to land a job in the industry and a few job postings related to information technology use in water engineering got my attention. I am skillful in data analysis in general and have done some mapping and data analysis in ArcGIS. I also have coding experience but the main projects and experiences that I had during the past few years are not related to the area.
I was thinking of getting an ArcGIS Desktop Associate certificate but I am not sure how effective that is (considering the $250 cost). I would really appreciate it if anyone who has got the Esri certificates or works in the intelligent water engineering field help me: 1) any recommendation on how to improve my resume? and 2) what resources did you use to prepare for the Esri exam?

    Thank you all!

    Hi Zahra,

Congratulations on reaching the end of your PhD journey! ASCE is offering a resume workshop in another few weeks where you will be able to get feedback on your resume if you would like to submit one. Here is the link! I will be one of the resume coaches and since I also work in the water field, theres even a chance that I will be the one reviewing it!

I don't have any experience I can speak from regarding the value of the GIS certificate. Don't be too quick to discount your programming experience just because it hasn't been in the field of your choosing though. As long as you understand the fundamentals of programming in a certain language, your future employer will likely be more than happy to explain what they would like to see you do with your skills.

Thank you very much Christopher for sharing the workshop with me. I have registered and would really like to get feedback on my resume. It will help to find what's missing in my resume.
