Me and a reviewer are having a difference in interpretation of how to distribute the lateral force of Equation 32.16-3 of ASCE 7-22 on our rooftop equipment (Box Shaped).
My interpretation of equation 32.16-3 is provides the Net (sum of all horizontal forces) on the equipment. I have distributed the total force (Fht) across the projected area of one side of the equipment at a time. I have checked the equipment can resist this pressure on all sides of the equipment for both positive and negative cases.
The reviewer for our project has asked us to apply the wind pressure on both the windward and leeward side concurrently. I believe this would go against the intent of the section and effectively double the net force on the equipment.
Which interpretations is correct?
If we were to check the equipment for Fht distributed along the windward and leeward faces concurrently, is there a correct way to distribute the force? Is 50% on each face appropriate?
