ASCE 7-22 Section 12.2.3.1 provides a method to increase loads from the upper level to a lower level.
Example: One-story single-family dwelling, stick framed, on a steel moment frame. Seismic zone D.
Exceptions: Detached one- and two-family dwellings of light framed construction.
I'm assuming increased loads are not required. Is this a correct assumption?
Section 12.2.3.2 Two Stage Analysis part (b) requires the entire building period be no greater than 1.1 the period of the upper level. The dwelling would need to be 60-ft tall for the 8-ft tall steel frame lower level to comply. Does the exception provided in 12.2.3.1 apply to all provisions following 12.2.3.1?
It does not appear that a one-story single-family dwelling can be placed on a steel frame if Section 12.2.3.2 (b) is a requirement.
Am I missing something?
