Good day everyone! I speak from Brazil and I intend to go to the United States in the near future, I have a lot of experience as a civil engineer (20 years), but I would like to prepare myself before going to the USA, but I can also take a lot of my knowledge at times.

What does the American construction market expect from the Engineer who has recently arrived in the country?

    Thanks!

I tend to hire quite a few immigrants with varied backgrounds for engineering technician work. One of the more recent hires was from Brazil. The advice I have would be the same for many of those immigrants. Get an understanding of the technical terminology, abbreviations, acronyms, etc in the location you intend to relocate and in the field you are specializing. Some terminology varies across the country as do acronyms. There are plenty of Youtube videos that will help.

You will be competing with others that are familiar with them so it is good to train yourself ahead of time. I train my new employees and help them out so they can understand when they have to communicate with engineers or utilities.
