  • 1.  Presidential Forum on Infrastructure

Presidential Candidates conveyed February 16 for the first forum on infrastructure. Amy Klobuchar, Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, and Tom Steyer shared thoughts on the state of America's Infrastructure and their plans to fund and implement solutions.

What were folks' thoughts on the events? I was personally struck by the candidate's desire to expand broadband internet. Many of us in urban areas take for granted access to high speed internet. Civil engineers may not even consider broadband internet to be infrastructure. However, in today's day and age, access to high speed internet is critical for staying connected, being productive, and expanding opportunity to people in rural areas.

Were people impressed by the candidate's response to how to weigh competing needs between the need to build new infrastructure or repair existing ones? How did candidates respond to issues about climate change and the need for sustainable infrastructure?

These are great events to have not only to let candidates provide their thoughts but get them to thinking deeply about the importance of infrastructure to our communities and nation. I was impressed by the answers from Buttigieg and Klobuchar who both showcased their experiences how they dealt with local infrastructure problems.
