The NCEES Record program is intended to allow for ease in applying for licensure in additional jurisdictions. In a few states, you can also apply for your initial licensure through the Record; this is what I was able to do in Oklahoma. I haven't yet tried to apply for comity licensure in another state.

For those that didn't know about the Record program, this may be something to look into. 

For those who have used the Record to apply for comity licensure, what was your experience?

I was a fan of the old system: I paid $100/year. I sent an experience update and got a colleague verification annually. Easily sent my experience record to several state boards.  I think Maryland was the record setter, about a week to get the license by comity. Delaware took months even with the NCEES record.  The "new" electronic system left me cold.  I had the impression they were pitching all the old data and skipping annual updates.  If you went a few years between applications you'd need to explain at least the time since the last update and perhaps all the way back to college.  I dropped dealing with it when they stopped the annual updating.

I didn't know you could use an NCEES record to apply for your initial license. Do any states require applications go through NCEES?  My assessment now is if one's state allows that, EITs should sign up for it.  If someone plans on getting a new state license every couple of years then it's the best available option but not as convenient as it used to be.  If you are a less frequent applicant it is probably just as easy to deal with it state by state as needed.  I think you can list your continuing education efforts at NCEES now- do any states require that?   Again if you want to fine but if a board decides to audit your CEU PDHs it would be easy enough to send your own lists and certificates.

I have attained licensure in 5 additional states through NCEES, and I found it relatively straight forward. Like Jan said however, if it's been a while between uses, your profile requires updating, which does include going through it like it was the first time. But I do understand the reasoning to some degree. They want to know you have been continuously working, if you moved, changed jobs, etc. Also, in my case, one of my references retired so I needed a new one. The amount the NCEES helps facilitate comity licensure depends somewhat on each state but I believe it has been quicker/easier in all of my uses.
