I'm curious what experience others have had in applying the HAZOP method in civil engineering projects? The paper Using the HAZOP Method to Conduct a Risk Assessment on the Dismantling of Large Industrial Machines and Associated Structures: Case Study in the January batch of free journal papers caught my attention. This paper, from the Journal of Construction Engineering and Management, describes the research that was done to adapt the method to conduct a safety risk assessment prior to the dismantling of large bulk materials handling machines. The HAZOP method is routinely used in the oil and gas and petrochemical industries and as demonstrated by this paper has broad cross-over value outside these industries.
