    Does your workplace consider the different cultural backgrounds of its members? How much of your personal culture are you willing to share with your co-workers? If they are shared, are everyone's religious and ethnic preferences recognized? How much will the organization adjust to honor those different cultures with days off and meetings scheduled?

    Hey Bill,

    I suppose that the first thing that needs to happen is that the atmosphere needs to exist where the employee feels comfortable sharing a bit about their culture, in order for the workplace to find ways to support that culture. I can think of the cases when we had co-workers who were Muslim and in keeping with their religious requirements, prayed 5 times per day. These individuals originally tried to find their own solutions to meet their needs, and would simply keep an eye out for any temporarily unoccupied space in the office in which to pray. However, that did not always work out (in such case where an empty office might not have actually been empty that day). Once the fact that there was a need of some staff not being met, the managers found a way to make intentional space for those who wished to have a quiet, unobtrusive place to pray.
