    Hello everyone,
What do you think of International collaboration of Engineering Institutions?
A partnership to brainstorm and bring about change, and innovation of infrastructure in light of current world trends.

    Hi Lydie,
    Great suggestion!

Consider going online to the "Directory of Associations" to see what's out there now.
    Cheers,

I think this could be a significant opportunity with what could be a relatively low transactional cost. The challenge is always human nature, e.g., overcoming the not invented here syndrome and competing priorities for time. In the meantime, I think spaces like Collaborate are great for exchanging views and trying to build a grass roots case for action that might garner leadership attention.

I think it is a wonderful idea. Please share your thoughts further. Kindly note that I am Vice President of the Association of Consulting Engineers Pakistan (acep.org.pk) and would be interested in exploring a framework for collaborating on issues of mutual interest.

    Best regards,

    Khalid Mirza

Basically my concept is that the courses taught at the graduate and undergraduate level in almost all the universities are similar in outline. The under-developed and developing nations have a persistent problem of sourcing for quality faculty. With international collaboration, lectures of full courses given by renowned professors in top universities of the USA could be shared with the universities of the less developed countries. This way these students in less developed countries can benefit from the knowledge faculty of countries like the USA. This could be a great step towards social responsibility.

I think international collaboration is a great idea. With the modern facilities like internet and video conferences, it is now easy to implement  then the past. One idea is to share the lectures from renowned professors in their areas of expertise with the engineering institutions of the developing and under-developed countries. This would elevate the standard of such institutions exponentially. The lectures for whole courses (undergrad and grad) could be shared through a mechanism devised by the ASCE.

It would indeed, give opportunities to a wide audience. Students, young professionals, and engineers worldwide. Exposure is key to career advancement

The structural Engineers do have some collabertive agrements with other Societies like the Institute for Structural Engineers.  It is beneficial for everyone.
