Starting about 1986 or so, with the 'sudden' elevated nation-wide awareness of the reduced competitiveness of American-made products following a Sunday evening television program June 24,1980,"If Japan Can, Why Can't We" by Dr. W. Edwards Deming, the word "Quality" spread like a wildfire!
With the hands-on support of ACEC, ASCE, AIA, FHWA, ASME, AGC, ASQ, PMI, FHWA, USACOE, I facilitated and co-managed the formation of the Design & Construction Quality Institute (DCQI), headquartered in the offices of ACEC, Washington, D.C. For over a nine-year period or so, annual conferences, newsletters and regional workshops were the results of the teamwork across traditional discipline 'boundaries.'
Stay Healthy!
Cheers,
Bill

Subject: As an engineer, what is the biggest achievement of your professional activity to date?
From 2006 to 2020, I volunteered countless hours in my community to help in a transition from blight to renaissance, as I sat on an advisory board and recommended both private development and capital improvement program projects, always balancing immediate needs and looking ahead. As part of the effort, I helped write a planning document to help the community grow for the next 20 years. The icing on the cake was presenting some of the work at conferences, receiving a few awards along the way plus recognitions from elected officials.
