In the future, what impact will the COVID-19 pandemic have on modes of travel for local work commutes?

I am interested in hearing your reflections on the use of travel modes (i.e. mass transportation, bicycles, shared-use vehicles, foot, and/or private automobiles) to commute to work in the future. Also, if you would like to comment further, will your own mode of travel to work change and why?

For your reference, there is a thoughtful editorial in the ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering, Part A: Systems entitled "The COVID-19 Pandemic and Transportation Engineering" that explores questions related to this topic by authors Chris Hendrickson, Ph.D., NAE, Dist.M.ASCE and Laurence R. Rilett, Ph.D., M.ASCE.

    Thanks for your consideration,
    Jameelah

Prior to COVID19 I was encouraged by some of the urban planning I was seeing that encouraged shared transit, walking and biking, etc. But, unfortunately, I think this will encourage more people towards cars for commute. We're seeing a brief resurgence of drive in movies, restaurants, churches, etc. as if the car is a personal bubble of safety. As I've discussed on here before, parking is one of the biggest considerations of private development (and quite a waste of resources of both ugly space that adds nothing to ambience and heavy expense that takes away from the total budget in creating a more inviting built environment).

Government must provide free taxis for weaker sections and pay for others to a subsidize. No Private vehicles would be allowed, public mass transport keeping in mind the social distancing must be provided.
