In addition to ASCE, I also volunteer with the American Public Works Association.
We've always discussed how to reach out to individuals where college is not an option, either due to no interest, family priorities or funding. The Chicago Metro Chapter made a short video about how public works changes peoples lives. Finding a good group to work with, mentors that believe in people and over time, if people see you have a good work ethic and are responsible, you can do more.
