Bio

Wastewater
Ms. Hintz has been involved in numerous process engineering evaluations for wastewater facilities in Western New York, Pennsylvania, and Puerto Rico. She has evaluated and designed improvement to most treatment processes, including preliminary treatment, secondary treatment, tertiary treatment for the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus, disinfection and solids handling. She also has worked on a number of combined sewer overflow projects, mainly to maximize treatment of flows conveyed to the treatment plant. Her clients have ranged from very small private wastewater facilities to larger clients, such as the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
Biosolids and Residuals
Ms. Hintz has performed numerous wastewater process and solids handling engineering evaluations for numerous facilities in Western New York, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, and Ontario, Canada including master planning services and development of immediate, short, and long-term plans for sustainable solids management. She is currently head of ARCADIS US’s Community of Practice on Biosolids and Residuals Management and is familiar with various solids handling and disposal technologies. She has also conducted detailed financial and greenhouse gas emissions analyses to help utilities determine the most cost-effective management strategies. She recently received certification as an Environmental Sustainability Professional is the Institute for Sustainability Infrastructure.
Energy
Ms. Hintz has participated in numerous projects to assist water and wastewater utilities in saving energy, including performing energy audits and making recommendations for changes in operating strategies. She is an Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) Certified Energy Manager and Certified Energy Auditor with specialized training in energy codes and standards, energy auditing, energy-efficient lighting, thermal storage, motors, heating/ventilation/air conditioning equipment and system optimization, and building controls systems. She has performed work for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) to promote the FOCUS on Water and Wastewater and FOCUS on Local Government Programs to local utilities and municipalities through facility energy audits and training of local water and wastewater operators. She has participated in the review of energy savings funding applications submitted under several of NYSERDA's funding programs, which involves evaluating program applications, conducting pre- and post-installation site visits, reviewing energy savings calculations, documenting baseline and proposed energy usage, and recommending the amount of incentive for each application.
