  • 1.  Lateral Snow/Ice Loading

    Posted 08-14-2024 12:22 PM

Looking for a lateral snow/ice loading expert.

The scenario is we have large lateral snow/ice loading from a sloped roof onto vertical vents near the eave. The ground snow loading in the area is very high. Relocation of the vents is not feasible. Protection of the vents is tricky for various reasons. We would like to better understand the lateral loading onto these vents to better drive maintenance timing.

Has anyone ever dealt with this sort of loading? Are there further papers or studies on this type of loading?

I am open to all suggestions and ideas.

If this interests you, please message me for further details regarding this scenario.

What is the slope of the roof, you may have more force from sliding snow than laterial pressure.

The slope is 1.5:12 metal roof. There is a concern of sliding snow, but it is fairly well mitigated. The snow glaciates and the snow mass slowly pushes onto these vents. We are try to better understand what these forces are. Similar to what snow guards would feel on residential roofs.
