If I talk of Oil & gas Process Industry typically we do not know much about the non structural components internal geometry or it is far too complex to accurately model it and hence do not model them. Non structural components are mostly Mechanical and Electrical Equipments or vessels.
In the past I have modelles some of the tall reactors and vessels supported on steel structure when they contributed majorly to the over all seismic weight. But even that model was a simple generalization by modeling the reactor shells and skirts as hollow sections of actual thickness and applying the additional component weight as UDL through the length of vessel except skirt and then connected to the main structure using rigid links. What we additionally do is make sure that the frame which is directly supporting the Heavy vessel/equipment is very Rigid by adding multiple infill beams with connected through CJP welds, the Bolts are also usually pre tensioned or slip critical to avoid any interaction.
(this kind of enforces our model of using rigid links as connection of the Non structural Component to the structure)
Although this is a very simplistic analysis, but it has been employed in past with good level of success, so guess the redundancy and rigidity of the connection makes the fastener interaction less important.
