I am an ASCE Governor of Region 10 (all areas outside North America) and recently met Nigel Colenso, Director of ABI Piers in New Zealand.

His company recently designed the ABI Piers System which is an adjustable base isolation foundation system for lightweight buildings. It is compliant with the New Zealand building code and can be used for new builds or to replace earthquake damaged foundations.

To see a video of the ABI Pier system in action please see ABI Piers

The ABI Pier system is designed to minimise damage to lightweight buildings, their occupants and contents from lateral earth moments during earthquake events.
