Hey All & (specifically) Pittsburgh Member!
I have been working to start an AEI Section in Pittsburgh; the section existed once, but faded away and now, more than ever, does it seem like prime-time to get started again.
Being a young, female civil/architectural/structural/transportation engineer - I know first hand how many professional societies the engineering world has, so my vision is to make the focus strongly on integration and collaboration with other professional societies. I've been in contact with local sections of AIA, ASHRAE and IEEE, as well as ASCE Pittsburgh/institutes and Pittsburgh's sustainability groups (links for more info: 1/2/3) who all seem very receptive and excited and share the same sentiment. Hopefully, come fall, the local universities will also be involved and outreach will increase.
As there is only one other non-student section (looking at you, Nebraska), I'd really love your input to shape and define AEI chapter sections, societies to involve, the best way to spread the word and create lasting involvement. How do you describe AE to other professionals - what's your elevator speech? What types of events would you like to see promoted? This open forum being members-only access is a great start to incentivising membership, what other benefits can I tout to differentiate the benefits of paying for an AE membership from other societies that will be at the events?
I look forward to working with the members in Pittsburgh and hope to see more societies popping up around the country soon!
And for those of you in and around Pittsburgh, I'm hosting a relaunch event August 16th.
