  • 1.  Is there a software for finite element analysis of steel structures?

    Finite element analysis of steel structures, if there any software for it please let me know. I have the text book written by Blodgett of welded structures connection. Structural design of steel buildings is interested to see. Is it for structural members or systems

    Try Larsa 4D. This is an advanced software for the analysis and design of structures based on the finite element method.

    One of the most user friendly is RISA 3-D. RISA is primarily a structural analysis program.  Autodesk has some FEA software (i.e, inventor, etc.), but had discontinued some of  the FEA software .  If you want FEA, many moons ago I used FEMAP &  MSC/NASTRAN. FEMAP may have been pre- and post processing software for NASTRAN. Bentley has structural analysis and FEA software subscriptions. I believe STRUDL is still out there; heard of it but do not recall ever using it. 

    I still have my desktop versions of RISA 3-D from way back that did not require subscriptions. I simply have to do the design calculations. 

    Blodgett is an excellent source. I have duct tape holding my Blodgett together.

    I've used GTStrudl for over 40 years and it was developed by Georgia Tech for steel structure analysis and design. AFAIK it is one of the only structural packages approved by the NRC for analysis of Nuclear power plants in the USA.

    It's noted that steel structures connection is better if combination of welding and bolted .Finite element analysis is only done with computer software. The end condition is either continues or discontinues. For accuracy element should be as small as possible. Triangular shaped element is good. Cype connect is used it's.
