Has anyone used Virtual Reality to "view" underground utilities while designing a project? What has your experience been like?

Hi Al. Although I have not used an AR platform on an active project I have done some testing with one. Some of these software require an active arcgis online account. This is where the data is saved and where the phone or tablet the user has pulls the information from. This can contain information to include xyz, type, size, etc. I don't think site vision needs one.

The second thing to look at is consistency. Since phones and tablet gps isn't really accurate (maybe 15m) there are can be some significant horizontal shits in viewing. If you know where one utility is, there is a way to shift the rest of the data to match. There is also way to hook the phone/tablet up to an external gps receiver and I've heard good things about them. If you are going to go down this route, I would suggest giving Trimble site vision. You can probably get a demo from your local provider. We use frontier precision and they are pretty knowledgeable.

Keep in mind I don't have a lot of experience with these viewers but tested one to see if it would work for a project of ours.

    Hope this helps!
