Description

Please join us on June 11th for our Annual Meeting!

The afternoon will begin with a site tour of the new 255,000 square-foot Burlington High School & Technical Center (PDHs will be provided) followed by a cookout and cornhole at North Beach.

We will also be honoring the 2025 Engineer of the Year, Young Engineer of the Year, and Project of the Year as well as inducting the 2025-2026 board members.

There will be an informal corn hole tournament to support a great cause; We are raising contributions for a new student scholarship. For every dollar you donate to the scholarship fund Vermont ASCE will match your donation up to $500.

Site Tour Description:

Join us as we explore the exciting developments of the new Burlington High School and Technical Center, a state-of-the-art facility designed to accommodate 1,000 students. This 255,000 square foot project includes a three-court gymnasium, specialized technical spaces for art, music, design, woodshop, criminal justice, and health services, as well as a 700-person auditorium.

Project Highlights:

  • Sustainable Design: The building is powered entirely by electric energy, with a geothermal open-loop system featuring four production and four injection wells to efficiently manage heating and cooling needs.
  • Innovative Construction: Precast pre-stressed planks are used for structural flooring, allowing for parallel activities during construction and minimizing weather impact.
  • Environmental Management: Extensive abatement, remediation, and demolition activities were conducted to prepare the site, including the removal of over 18,000 tons of building debris and 6,500 tons of asbestos-containing materials.
  • Site Challenges: The project overcame significant challenges, including complex site topography, undulating bedrock depths, and limited utility mapping, through innovative engineering solutions and real-time adjustments.
  • Community Impact: Located in a public setting, the project required careful coordination with local stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption and maximum benefit to the surrounding community.
