Staged Construction Stability Analysis on OC3
There were many geotechnical challenges on the OC3 project: 25' high cantilever soldier pile walls, two bridges built top-down, and geofoam to improve stability. The most challenging were 50' high embankments on soft soil to cross the Kingsbury Run Ravine. The embankments were constructed in stages with geogrid reinforcement to ensure stability. Piezometers, settlement cells and inclinometers were used to monitor conditions during construction and measurements compared well with predictions. The project is a good example of how challenging geotechnical conditions can be addressed with extensive subsurface explorations and the application of advanced geotechnical analysis methods.
