The UESI Surveying & Geomatics Division is inviting you to participate in our quarterly series of virtual sessions as a preview to our rescheduled UESI Surveying & Geomatics 2022 Conference in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. As we are still working in a virtual environment, we have taken a few of our proposed workshops and panels and reformulated them to be free, informative, and exciting virtual events. Our speakers are leaders in their field and will present just a teaser of what you will experience at the rescheduled UESI Surveying & Geomatics 2020 Conference.
Mobile LiDAR – Solving engineering and surveying problems in today world

The use of mobile LiDAR is quickly becoming the industry norm to solve challenging engineering and surveying problems. This technology is being deployed in to keep engineering and surveying professional out of harm’s way, as well as capturing a scene in its entirety to help solve complex problems. Mobile LiDAR can be deployed in transportation to create high accuracy models, provide base mapping for autonomous vehicle navigation, used to map transmission and distribution systems of electrical and communication networks, and provide geospatial intelligence for numerous industries. This seminary will give insight into the technology and examples on how these challenges are being met.

Ryan C. Swingley, PS, Geospatial Manager, ESP Associates, Inc., M.ASCE
Ryan Swingley graduated from Vincennes University with A.S. in Surveying Technology in 1999 and gained licensure to practice as a Registered Land Surveyor in the State of Indiana in 2005. He is also licensed as a Professional Surveyor in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Nebraska. Ryan is currently the Geomatics Manager for ESP Associates in their Indianapolis office where he primarily focuses on Mobile LiDAR acquisition, processing and mapping. Mr. Swingley is also an adjunct instructor at Vincennes University where he teaches a laser scanning class every fall semester. Ryan has served the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors in many capacities since entering the profession. Most notable, he served as the President of the society in 2018 and is the current Vice President for the ISPLS board of directors. In 2020, Ryan was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Certified Surveying Technicians (CST) of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). Ryan’s passion for the last several years has been work force development by encouraging youth to pursue a career in land surveying. He has spoken to hundreds of perspective students over the years by teaching the Surveying Merit Badge to boy scouts, attending career fairs and speaking in class rooms ranging from kindergarten to 12
th grade. Ryan is a brand ambassador to the Get Kids into Survey program, which uses age appropriate material such as posters and comic books to spark interest in this great profession.
