About the Presentation:

The presentation will describe the ASCE National and Maryland State Report Card for America’s Infrastructure and the current work on the Maryland Roads category. It provides a brief history of the Report Card and summarizes the methodology used. It emphasizes how the State effort compliments the national effort and discusses its goals. It presents some results and successes of past Report Card efforts. It reports on the progress on the Roads category evaluation and solicits the branch’s member’s help in furthering progress in that category and in other Report Card categories. The presentation will end with an opportunity for questions and comments and would solicit input from attendees.

About the Speaker:

Mr. Brong grew up in eastern Pennsylvania but has lived in Boonsboro, Maryland for 35 years. After serving in the Army, he trained as a heavy equipment operator and worked as such for several years, including a stint in the Peace Corps as the leader of a road maintenance brigade. While serving in the Peace Corps, he asked himself what the logical extension of equipment operation would be that required a college degree. The answer was Civil Engineer. So, after his service, he enrolled and eventually graduated (1980) from the University of Minnesota with a CE degree.

worked as an engineer for the next 35 years. This included 3 years for Roy Jorgenson Associates (now located in Buckeystown), 7 years for DeLeuw Cather International (now Parsons), and 20 years for Booz Allen Hamilton. His work was primarily in road/highway maintenance management, road network analysis, and facility management. He spent some 20 years working overseas (Latin America, Africa, Australia, and the Balkans) and a similar amount in the United States, including contract work with the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management.

retired in 2015 but worked part time for Booz Allen for several years. In retirement he enjoys woodworking, music, and babysitting grandchildren.
