RI ASCE January Lunch Meeting

Thursday, 16 January 2025, 11:30am

Featured Speaker:

Aaron S. Bradshaw, Ph.D., P.E.

Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the

University of Rhode Island.

Topic:

Investigating Foundation Behavior from Structural Health Monitoring Data:

A Case Study at the Block Island Wind Farm

The geotechnical engineering group at the University of Rhode Island (URI) and their partners have been involved in the structural health monitoring of some of the first offshore wind farms in the United States starting with the Block Island Wind Farm (BIWF). This work included the installation of strain gages, inclinometers, and accelerometers on one of the BIWF jacket structures. This presentation describes how data from these sensors in combination with numerical modeling was used to assess foundation loads, foundation stiffness needed to assess the natural frequency of the structure, and foundation damping needed to assess fatigue performance.
