Title: Moisture Management Geosynthetics - Path to the 100-year Pavement Foundation
This presentation examines the role of High-Modulus Active Moisture Management Geosynthetics in mitigating common failure mechanisms in pavement structures, particularly those caused by subsurface moisture. As outlined by the FHWA, many pavement distresses arise from moisture accumulation in the base and subgrade layers. Moisture management geosynthetics, which provide both separation, filtration, and reinforcement, are designed to address this issue by utilizing gravity-driven and capillary suction-induced active drainage to effectively manage moisture.
The session will present findings from multiple research projects and case studies that demonstrate the effectiveness of moisture management geosynthetics in subsurface drainage, especially in moisture-sensitive soils. Attendees will gain insight into the mechanics of these geosynthetics, including their interaction with roadway materials, performance under varying environmental conditions, and how they can contribute to the development of durable, 100-year pavement foundations.
