Senator Thomas F. Patton
Senator Tom Patton is a lifelong resident of Cuyahoga County with over 20 years of service in the Ohio General Assembly. Raised on Cleveland’s near west side in a family of nine, he is the son of a Cleveland police officer and the late father of a Cleveland Heights police officer who died in the line of duty. His personal experiences have driven a strong legislative focus on supporting police, firefighters, first responders, veterans, and working families.
First elected to the Ohio Senate in 2008, Senator Patton has served in leadership roles including Majority Floor Leader and Chair of the Senate Transportation Committee. He has championed legislation to protect firefighters with cancer, prohibit law‑enforcement quotas, remove residency requirements for first responders, expand access to higher education, attract good‑paying jobs, lower taxes, and strengthen Northeast Ohio’s economy—including helping secure a film tax credit and land bank legislation to combat urban blight.
Recognized widely for fiscal responsibility and public service, Senator Patton remains deeply engaged in his community, church, schools, and civic organizations. He raised six children in Strongsville and is the proud grandfather of ten. He represents Ohio’s 24th Senate District, serving parts of western Cuyahoga County.
