Volunteer for the 2024 ASCE Engineering Blitz for Kealing Middle School 6th graders!
It's the Fall which means the KEALING ENGINEERING BLITZ!
It’s that time of year again! The Kealing Engineering Blitz is back!
We had a super successful event last year and we want to continue that momentum.
We’re seeking volunteers to run the Engineering Blitz contests. Students will compete to build the tallest tower out of plastic cups/popsicle sticks or strongest paper bridge loaded with nuts/bolts/washers.
What is it?
Our annual commitment to contribute to our local community and engage with young students, and getting the next crop of students excited in STEM and our profession.
When is it?
We need volunteers for Wednesday, Dec 18 and Thursday, Dec 19
The time commitment is 8:15am to 11:00am.
Where is it?
The event will take place at Kealing Middle School, located at 1617 Pennsylvania Ave, Austin TX 78702.
How does it work?
ASCE Volunteers will sign in at the front door and meet in the Kealing Middle School Library to pick up coffee and the contest supplies.
NOTE: Volunteers will need to register and sign up for a background check here: https://austinisd.voly.org/ and choose the STEM Enrichment Category when prompted.
Students will be in their Advisory classroom, volunteers will bring the contest supplies to the classroom and introduce the contest. Students will break out into groups of 4-5 and begin competing. When the contest is over they will award the "Grand Prize" to the team that wins and the participation prizes to all students.
Advisory teachers will be there to help with class management, but the volunteers will be running the show!
