  • 1.  Section and Branch - MOSAIC/DEI Committee activities

    Posted 10-15-2025 03:25 PM

I'm working with the local Kansas City Section to start up a MOSAIC/DEI Committee and was wondering what other Sections and Branches have that committee and what activities have they found to be successful?  I looked on the LTC page and other than the MOSAIC summary only saw a BP from Wisconsin for scholarships (still good info!).

Great question Ernesto! I serve as the MOSAIC staff contact and am aware of a few Section/Branch and Institute DEI committees that are actively engaged: Austin Branch, Boston Society of Civil Engineers, East Central Florida Branch, and SEI. I encourage you to reach out to them for ideas on activities. Also, Houston Branch and East Central Branch were recently selected as recipients of the ASCE JEDI Award. Hope you found this response helpful.  Lisa

Lisa - Do you know if we have updated demographics for our membership and Civil Engineers in general?  I found it on the Tip Sheet.

    Thanks!

    Hi Ernesto,

Thank you for inquiring about the demographic report. We do not have any updated demographic reports since that initial data was posted. You can find more current demographic data on engineering professions, to include civil engineering, by visiting the  Architecture and Engineering Occupations : Occupational Outlook Handbook: : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

I hope you find this helpful Ernesto.

    Best regards,

    Lisa

Thanks Lisa!  I was able to find it on the BLS Website.

    Here's what I found:

    image

From 2020, it looks like the percent of women (+7%), Black or African American (+3), and Hispanic or Latino (+4%) have all increased.  Slight decrease for Asians (-1.5% ).  At the same time, the workforce increased from 475,000 to 525,000 an increase of 10.5%.  Might be a topic for a future thread!
