  • 1.  All Sizes Fit All - An OSHA change to Celebrate!

A recent change to OSHA regulations is something to celebrate!

OSHA 1926.95(c)(2) was effectively changed on 1/13/25

It now requires that personal protection equipment (PPE) "is selected to ensure that it properly fits each affected employee."

This means that employers are required to make PPE available that fits workers of all sizes.  As women now represent over 1 million workers in construction and that number is trending up, demand and availability of equipment that fits properly has increased.  There are over 56,000 women in the industry who need a size of fit that is smaller.  Clothing and harnesses that are too big can get caught or pose risk of injury.  Gloves that are too big make work awkward and can fall off.  OSHA also recognizes the need to provide better gear for men and women who are over 300 lbs.

Have you encountered any situations where PPE didn't fit right?  How do you think employers and suppliers will respond to this new law?

Thanks, Chad. It's great to see OSHA get on board with different body types and sizes.

Our daughter Sarah is a Safety and Environmental Protection officer and she says suppliers offer smaller (and larger) sizes of PPE, but often at a premium price that discourages employers from buying them. I hope this new rule increases demand and drives down the costs of these items.
