Intro & Social Media Engagement

Hi! I am Natalie and I am currently a junior at Penn State Harrisburg University studying Civil Engineering. I have been attending ASCE Younger Member week and I had noticed that there were not any social media platforms for student chapters. So, during the meeting, I created a GroupMe, Discord, and Facebook (linked below) to increase engagement within the student chapters globally. I had shared these links to my Engineering communications head to share out the links and I contacted Eden Butler, Aff.M.ASCE who encouraged me and led me to this page. Let me know if you want to help and be the admin to any of these platforms and if you want to create more or just want to chat. Also, spread the word to other fellow ASCE members! Thanks so much!

For all student chapters, I created a GroupMe, Discord, and Facebook group:

    GroupMe: https://groupme.com/join_group/65764232/gcL4atcp
    Discord: https://discord.gg/Q98tr68wmS
    Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2765218887023939/

    Hello Natalie,

I am Veronica, I am currently the president of the Student Chapter of COPRI from ASCE até Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

I loved your idea, and I support the creation of social media groups for interaction between ASCE student members. I do not know GroupMe and Discord, but I will share with the members of our Chapter all the links so that they can join the groups that interest them.

A LinkedIn group may be interesting too, at least here our members have used LinkedIn extensively to connect with professionals and look for professional opportunities, in addition to sharing their work. This social network also has the option of having groups.

    Regards.

Hi, Veronica! If you're interested in connecting with ASCE members on LinkedIn, there are a few existing options that wouldn't require you to create, grow and manage a new group. Aside from ASCE's company page, there is also an ASCE LinkedIn group (260,000+ members strong!), an ASCE Younger Member group, and discipline-specific groups for structural, geotechnical, environmental & water, construction, transportation & development, architectural, and coastal/port engineering. And, as you know, ASCE's Student Leaders Collaborate forum is a great way to connect with ASCE students around the world.

I hope this information is helpful to you! Happy networking!

    Dear Lizzie Howell,

Thank you so much for your response! I have noticed the current ASCE options for social media. I was interested in creating, growing, and managing ASCE social media options for Student Chapters because there hasn't been any. I totally agree that the ASCE Student Leaders Collaborate forum is great, and I would like to expand these efforts. I recently got in contact with multiple ASCE members including the ASCE Communications Outreach subcommittee and we are going to look further into this. Let me know if you want to collaborate or have any other suggestions!

    Thank you!

    Sincerely,

    Natalie Neptune

    Dear Veronica Silveira De Andrade,

Thank you for your response and the great input you have given! I actually had a meeting with the ASCE Communications Outreach Subcommittee a couple of days ago so I am holding off on making and promoting the social media accounts for Student Chapters because the guidelines are unknown (it was never done before). I will definitely keep the LinkedIn group in mind for the future!

    Sincerely,

    Natalie Neptune

Dear Natalie, thank you for the initiative. In fact, we just changed the student chapter leaders in the Universidad del Norte (Colombia), and it seems that all the contact information of Student chapters in ASCE.org had disappeared. There is no straight way to contact or know other chapters in South America (or the world, through the web page).

    Hi Andres,
Are you referring to this page? Find a Student Chapter | ASCE When we are made aware that chapter has their own website we link to it here, but most would not want us to list their email or specific contact information on such a public forum. If you have questions about finding other groups near you, you can always reach out to your Section leader or email us at [email protected]
