    CURRENT CRITERIA

    PROPOSED CRITERIA

    RATIONALE FOR CHANGE

    conduct experiments in at least two technical areas of civil engineering and analyze and interpret the resulting data; conduct experiments in at least two civil engineering contexts and report the results;
    • The current requirement to "analyze and interpret the resulting data" was eliminated because the EAC General Criteria already include a requirement to "analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions." The CEBOK3 also notes that "the ability to…provide more thorough interpretation and analysis of the results is more often achieved through postgraduate education."
    • The requirement to report the results of experimentation is specified in the CEBOK3.
    • The phrase "technical areas of civil engineering" has been replaced by "civil engineering contexts" for consistency with the subsequent provision on design.

    11) conduct experiments in at least two civil engineering contexts and report the results;
    I don't know any experiment where the results would not be reported, seems unnecessary, and detracts.  I would drop it or go back to interpret.  That has more meaning.

    Thanks

    Interpreting results is much more important than just reporting the results. Moreover, interpreting results necessitates to report the data.  So interpret data is more comprehensive than only report the data.   , So I suggest to " Conduct experiments in at least two civil engineering contexts and interpret its data"

    Thank you for your suggestion.  I do not think that report is a typical Bloom's verb.  The suggestion of interpret involves judgment and increases to level to Evaluate.  I suggest that this is something we/committee should consider further.
