The National Capital Section (NCS) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) conducted a membership survey to assess member satisfaction and engagement. Initiated in December 2010, the survey received a 16% response rate, revealing that nearly 90% of members are satisfied, with a notable interest in construction, transportation, and environmental engineering. Key findings highlighted a decline in overall membership since 1998, a shift in areas of interest, and a need for greater engagement with younger members. Recommendations were made for enhancing member participation and addressing the diverse needs of the membership base.%0aThe survey also identified preferred meeting times and locations, indicating a preference for daytime meetings and educational opportunities. Members expressed that time constraints and travel issues hinder attendance, while many are involved in multiple engineering associations. Suggestions for improvement included better meeting venues and a wider range of speakers. Overall, the findings aim to guide ASCE-NCS in developing strategies to enhance member engagement and satisfaction.
