The ASCE Historic Landmark Scavenger Hunt organized by the Maine Section aimed to engage members in discovering 15 historic civil engineering landmarks across the state. Teams of ASCE members participated, competing for various awards based on their visits, creativity, and team spirit. The event ran from May 2016 to April 2017, beginning with a kickoff BBQ and culminating in an awards presentation at the annual meeting. The scavenger hunt not only fostered excitement among members but also generated a wealth of photographs and updates for the organization's newsletter, enhancing community engagement. Organized by the Diversity Committee, the scavenger hunt utilized a BINGO sheet with clues corresponding to the landmarks, encouraging participants to learn about Maine's civil engineering history. While the event was successful in generating enthusiasm and participation, it faced challenges such as low attendance at the kickoff BBQ. The positive feedback and interest in the event led to plans for future scavenger hunts, indicating a successful model for membership development and community involvement within the ASCE Maine Section.
