The New Hampshire Section celebrated its 50-year anniversary with a special party and awards ceremony, which included the NH OCEA award, student scholarships, and ASCE Lifetime Membership Awards. The planning process began in November 2008, focusing on securing a central, appealing venue to enhance attendance and create a memorable atmosphere. Promotional efforts included email announcements, newsletters, and invitations to neighboring sections, resulting in participation from members of Maine, Vermont, and Boston sections. A unique keynote speaker was arranged through a volunteer agreement, and sponsorships were obtained to cover costs for award winners' attendance. The event, held in May 2009, was well-received, with excellent food and a successful registration process. However, there were some setbacks, including technical difficulties with the speaker's presentation and seating arrangements. Key recommendations for future events include ensuring the functionality of electronics and thorough planning to avoid last-minute issues. Overall, the event was deemed a success, with immediate follow-up actions such as posting photographs online and thanking sponsors in the section newsletter.
