The Region 9 Legislative Fly-In, held on May 15, 2015, aimed to train new members in the legislative process and prepare them for future advocacy activities. Approximately 30 participants attended, with around 20 being first-time attendees. The event included a morning training session and opportunities for members to meet with their State Senator and Assembly members, fostering greater involvement in the Government Relations Committee and supporting the Society's Infrastructure Advocacy initiative.%0a The success of the event was attributed to the participation of new members and the training provided by ASCE’s Manager of State Government Relations, Maria Matthews. Recommendations for future events include continuing the dual training sessions for both new and experienced members to enhance legislative engagement. The outcome was the identification of 20 potential members for the Government Relations Committee, with plans to hold the event annually to maintain momentum and advocacy efforts.
