ASCE Mentor Match Meet Up

We will be having quarterly check-ins. If you are active in ASCE Mentor Match or an ASCE member who is interested in enrolling you are welcome to join our conference call. Our host will be sharing a few mentoring tips. This will also be a time to discuss any challenges you’ve faced while allowing you to connect with others in ASCE Mentor Match.

Our next call will be on Monday, September 9th from 1 p.m. EST to 1:30 p.m. EST. This call will be hosted by a mentoring team. Here's a little about them:

Antonio Williams, A.M.ASCE is a highly motivated young professional eager to build upon his technical expertise and fundamental knowledge of water resources engineering obtained at the University of Georgia while achieving PE licensure and professional certification. Mr. Williams is interested in advancing his skills in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis including modeling, water and wastewater treatment and conveyance, and waste site remediation, and sustainability. Particularly, he is keen to diversify his expertise early in his career.

Collin Smith, A.M.ASCE is an ecological engineer in training with 2 years of experience in ecological restoration, green infrastructure, and stormwater design, as well as watershed planning throughout the Midwest. He has been a licensed engineer-in-training since 2016 with PE licensure expected by 2022. His primary role is to provide engineering support for projects from initial planning, through permitting, and into construction. With technical skills ranging from watershed-scale planning to site-specific design he provides the support needed to take projects from ideation to realization. Through his technical writings and restoration of urban green spaces, Mr. Smith shares his passion for educating the public and encouraging stewardship in the field of water resources. His professional aim is to continue learning and implementing innovative engineering practices that synchronously remediate natural area degradation while addressing the water resources issues affecting urban areas.

Steven McCutcheon, PhD, PE, founding D.WRE, F.EWRI (initial class), F.ASCE is an international expert in water resources, water quality, flooding, hydrology, oil spill cleanup, hydrodynamics, coastal surge, sediment transport, toxic waste cleanup, climate change, phytoremediation, and ecological, environmental and civil engineering. Dr. McCutcheon served as an academic, professional, and research mentor: 2 ASCE mentees, 9 visiting scientists, 13 postdoctoral fellows, 23 Ph.D. and 26 M.S. candidates, and 18 undergraduates. Taught and advised at 18 universities. Three protégées became full professors at major universities in the U.S. and Hong Kong; and one a President of an engineering firm. He currently is an ad hoc mentor to a young female faculty member in Egypt, young female scientist in Iran, and young civil engineer in Afghanistan. Dr. McCutcheon was a Senior Director of the Board of ASCE, President American Ecological Engineering Society, American Institute of Architects Recon Team—Sri Lanka tsunami damage, and ASCE team to the Mississippi Coast after Hurricane Katrina.
